Right now I'm a bit worried about both of these ethics, especially Authoritarian. Authoritarian gets some important bonuses that only matter if you're using slaves, while Egalitarian gets a bonus that I am worried is lessened in value if you choose Xenophobe.

I mean, why can't Authoritarian just get a reduction to all Unrest, just like Collectivist gets a bonus to suppressing all factions? That way they'd still get a bonus to slavery, since they'd be the only ones who can use a caste system, while being all about that law and order even if they don't avail themselves of slavery.

I'm only a little bit worried about Egalitarian, since their migration attraction doesn't seem to be as important to their kit as Authoritarians' unrest reduction. Still, how much benefit a Xenophobe gets from migration attraction depends on how much non-refugee aliens (since xenophobes can't accept refugees) want to move to a place where they can't get full citizenship (it's only a -5% penalty to happiness if they are only allowed Residence, so I can see them doing just fine).

My main concern is still Authoritarian. There's obviously nothing forcing them to use slavery (though it looks like they start with a caste system for their own species by default), but that looks like seriously sub-optimal play.

sounds like quite the pickle, but not as bad as militarists. +10% army damage? but what if you don't want to use armies? There's nothing forcing you to use armies (Armies would definitely make you win wars faster, and it fits the ethos) bit it looks like that's seriously sub-optimal play.

Your sarcasm might work a bit better if occupying a planet wasn't worth a whole boat load more war score than simply blockading it.
