I will probably take some names from IIWW aircraft pinups, like "Sweet Sally", "Mary Sue" and so on. Favourite mech will be called after my wife "Vicious Caroline" or "Beloved Witch" ;)
I've done that before sometimes amending them to fit better in the universe, so for instance Flak Eater became Gauss Eater.
Of course you will have to see if you can fit in Vicky the Vicious Virgin :D

That is one hell of an idea. When I get a female pilot that I've grown attached to (and if any of the bios show them as hot tempered or events pop up that show one as being particularly hot tempered), then the mech she drives most often shall be called "Broomstick".

I'm thinking any mech I use is going to need to earn it's name. Once it's survived a handful of missions and I see how it performs, then it gets a name. Although I may end up naming any CN9-A I get "Lefty" because no matter what happens, I almost always seem to lose the RA on those.....

It just occurred to me that when I eventually customize a Firestarter with 6 MGs (to be used only on missions with minimal salvage anyway)... the inevitable result of firing upon mechs with ammo will earn it the designation "Boomstick".

If you get a whole lance of Thunderbolts, you could name them after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles then.
Michaelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, Leonardo.

In my first playthrough as "Roscoe's Redshirt Rangers" , Commander Jimmy Tiberius Roscoe will be piloting "Masculine Pose" , all other mechs of the away team are simply "Red2", "Red3", "Red4"

My commander's mech (a Highlander, once I can get my hands on one) will be named the "Iron Duke", because I really like that name for a giant robot. Other than that, I'll likely go with various historical figures...maybe stick to a theme, like Roman emperors or something.

The missile boat support mechs on board will naturally have to be named "Slings" and "Arrows" ....

As soon as I have a Catapult, the two LRM launchers will either have these names or "Pollux" and "Castor". :D

Named after the Gemini twins, or after "Face off"?

In keeping with the theme from the bard, you could name your close range tank "Yorick". Then when it's remains are dragged back to the ARGO for repair , Yang Virtanen can stand there, hands on hips shaking his head and saying "Alas poor Yorick, I knew him once" :p

And like clockwork!

The first +++ gear I find for sale, and it's an AC10. Put it on the brand new Cent I recovered and the in the first mission that Cent ever deploys on, it gets the right arm with that extremely expensive AC torn off by an Orion (A Wolverine was the heaviest mech encountered prior to this, so I got careless) after it fires a single shot.

I think I had something similar. I got a ++ PPC fairly early on. Put it on my vindicator. Very next mission, the poor thing barely makes it out alive. I was missing like 3 sections, including that arm with the shiny PPC in it.

What? you can name your mechs in game?

Yep in the refit screen.

I finally (quite a ways in) got my TDR 5S (had to make do with a SE for a long while, but those missiles are on the wrong shoulder!) It shall be named... THUD.

No other names are needed other than identifying key loadout parts for mechs I run multiples of.
