You don't have to name your mech. Its an option.I have no idea actually... did not even think about that you might be able to do this, name your mechs.
Damn... this is going to make things that much harder for me if I can rename mechs as well. Because finding names for my creations, be they characters, objects, etc, is the one thing which always takes me the longest... especially when I am not using one of my most common names that I normally use. Having the right name, the perfect name actually, for the character/thing/etc, is very importent to me... it HAS TO sound right for that character for me to use it, and if it does not fit then I continue to tamper with it. This is usually why my characters names are almost always the last thing I figure out for my characters. Sometimes, due to this, some of my pen and paper rpg characters have been nameless for 1-3 game sessions befor I finally figured out their name. XD
So potentually naming my mechs as well in BattleTech? Yeah, that's going to pretty drasticly increase the time it takes me to do things like this in BattleTech. XD
I did, how ever, come up with one idea for Mech names as I was writing the above things... although, it could just as easily be the MechWarrior pilots names instead... but anyway, this is about the mechs names. So, I thought of that a lance always consists of four mechs, and I thought "What if I had one lance of four mechs which where always together no matter what?"... maybe four specialized mechs for certain kinds of missions, where they would almost never be used in other lances as replacement on other kinds of missions, or where no other mechs replace any of those four mechs on their kinds of missions either, normally atleast. So I then wondered where I could find four names that where connected to each other in a meaningful way. And I actually fairly quickly came up with something, four names from two of my all time favorit movies from the 70's, the names of: "D'Artagnan", "Athos", "Aramis", and "Porthos". So the movies in this case is the1973's "The Three Musketeers" and the 1974's sequel "The Four Musketeers", of course they are based on books, but I never read the books I think... anyway. On top of that, which mech was named what could be dependent on which mech would seem to fit what name/characters, personality, "role" and/or style of fighting, etc, the most. The lance it's self would of course be labled as "The Musketeers". XD
Of course... but there is a chance I might. You don't have to name your mech. Its an option.
For my part, mechs will have to "earn" a name designation. Except maybe my main characters mech. Maybe if it's ancestral or if it has a special origin in game I might name it accordingly. We will see...Of course... but there is a chance I might.
It depends on how the mech naming system is implimented. If the custom mech name replaces the mechs base name and model number etc, then I will probably not name the mechs (unless it is for very specific reasons).
But if the custom mech name is in adition to the mechs regular name and model number, so I can see both of them, then chances are I will name my mechs. XD
Yeah I might also have that "earn its name" kind of a thing going on. I mean if one of your mechs tends to have a much higher death rate for your pilots (vs the other mechs in the same weight class that is), then you almost have to point out the fact that this particular mech has a habit of killing your pilots. XDFor my part, mechs will have to "earn" a name designation. Except maybe my main characters mech. Maybe if it's ancestral or if it has a special origin in game I might name it accordingly. We will see...

You forgot Tea-Bag. (Thank the Gods the animators don't have that animation into the game, or you KNOW some kid is gonna use it)Thunderbolts, Tea-Bowl, Tea-Time, Tea-Cake, Tea-Pot, Tea-Cup.......![]()
Well, that will depend on the mechs and the pilots. Guess I'll be stealing ideas from David Drake's Hammer's Slammers series. A Firestarter will be called Flamefarter for sure.![]()
