In 1936, Italy used the L3/33 (CV-33) tankette in Ethiopia with mixed results. Hungary purchased roughly a hundred for training purposes while pursuing a licensing deal with Swedish Lanswerk for a better design. In 1941, Hungary joined Germany against the Soviets. Due to shortages of the newer Toldi and Turan designs, it was forced to field several dozen of those tankettes against the Soviets. I'd give an award for bravery, or commit to an asylum, anyone willing to risk taking a CV-33 up against a T-34.

For sure Japan, we are talking in respect to "badassness"

by August 1945:

Destroyed Industry
Destroyed Navy
Oil supplies depleted
Germany capitulates
Atomic Attacks
USSR invades

No majority vote for surrender by the Supreme council

1. Finland, no other country did what the brave Fins did, against the rabid red beast, they fought bravely, inflicted huge losses, despite having really small army/old weapons/barely any tanks (did they have any serious tanks?).

2. Greece, pretty similiar case as Finland, invaded by huge warmongering aggresive state which had superior military force, yet they managed to push Italians back to Albania.

3. Germany, only because they could fight against the (almost) entire world for 6 years, I dont think there is a nation which achieved that.

Greece doesn't really deserve to win in this as Italy poorly planned their invasion and used less soldiers than Greece so it was definitely an advantage for Greece. Italy was only considered a super power because it had a good sized (but not advanced) navy and had some colonies in Africa. I'd say Finland as their situation was much more tougher.

Japan even facing invasion they still basically told America to piss off

if the invasion of Japan had went through

According to what info I could find Japan had about 900 thousand troops ready vs America's 1 million by November of 45

Japan also had 12 thousand aircraft in reserved for the defence which we had no idea of most of them were kamikaze

Campaign estimates were 50 thousand allied troops killed in the first month
With the Campaign going well into 1946 with 1 million American troops dead

I can post the info if anyone is interested in reading the full article

12,000 aircraft is a lot..but if they don't have any fuel then what's the point? I know they could make fuel from pine trees and such but it isn't nearly enough for 12,000 planes.

They had been saving every drop of fuel in preparation but we will never know how long or even if they could have sustained their planed continuous kamikaze attacks on the invasion force

I am by no means a Soviet fan but, considering the conditions they were in (Curb Stomped in WW1, undergo revolution complete with western intervention against future soviets, then a massive purge...) the fact that they were able to withstand almost total devastation and hold off the vast majority of the Axis (including the oft ignored/forgotten ones who still fielded millions of men) then emerge from the war as a nation rivaled only by the untouched USA... that's pretty badass.

Finland did plenty of respectable things but I don't know that it rivals the USSR.

Many nations did a lot, but i must say Finland, even though i am biased. Finland did not only fight against second largest nation on earth with most tanks and huge superiority everywhere, but at end of the war Finland's population was actually surprised to see war end, they wanted to keep fighting as they believed we could have kept fighting and our army was still undefeated. Censorship has a lot to do with it, but still, when peace came, flags were raised to half mast to mourn the loss of land. After keeping independence while fighting alone against Soviet Union, Finland was mourning loss of land. And Finns wanted it back, and wanted to attack Soviet Union, take back the land and create Greater Finland.
Luckily our leadership at least understood that Finland, with smaller population than pre-war Leningrad, could not forever keep fighting against nation that eventually even defeated Germany.
So we fought 2 wars against Soviet Union and one against Germany and kept our independence, and was never occuppied apart from Hanko. Not too bad. Oh, and Soviets suffered huge casualties.

The Finns were incredible but nothing on earth compares with the Eastern Front and the inhumane barbarity that the average Soviet citizen endured from both the Axis and their own leaders. As a Brit im more than happy to concede 'badassery' to the Soviet Union. Imagine if the Soviet Union surrendered as easily as the rest of Europe? France(lol), Dunkirk? Singapore? the USSR wouldn't have stood for that.

And we in the west owe them enormously.
