What are the first three things I should do in an Austria game?

So, I want to do a playthrough as Austria, but how should I start, I was thinking about attacking France, but since I can't ally Burgundy, I'm not sure that'll be worth it.

Also, how do I get the missions to get a personal union over Bohemia and Hungary?

The PU missions require it to be after 1500, I believe. You also get a mission to PU Burgundy after 1500 if the inheritance didn't fire.

You can force a PU with Bohemia at the start if you RM them and you get your dynasty on the throne. They start with no leader so it's not that difficult. They soon afterwards get a decision to kill their leader and install Podebrad dynasty, so you have to force the PU before then. Of course, this will give you negative IA each month because you have an elector as a subject, so I wouldn't recommend it.

Is the negative IA a new change in 1.8? Previously vassal electors gave you a negative on other elector votes, but no IA penalty.

It is a bug confirmed by WIZ. Should only apply to Vassals, not union, will be fixed in the upcoming Hotfix!

Previously Burgundy used to be occasionally friendly, but I haven't seen that for a couple of patches. If they are ally them, if not, oh well. You might still be able to win by allying Castile, Poland (inc. Lithuania), and Denmark (inc. Sweden).

In the meantime, RM Bohemia and Hungary at game start. Bohemia will get your dynasty on the throne, instantly claim throne and begin a war for them. You'll lose some IA, but I still reckon it's worth it. Meanwhile, Hungary should either fall under a PU with you, or give you a similar CB through event. If they ally France, well, there's your opportunity there.

Does that mean 1.9 then or will it be sooner?
There will almost certainly be a 1.8.2 patch that just fixes a bunch of bugs (mostly introduced by 1.8). Whether that is sooner then you think 1.9 is going to be, no one knows! I would expect it either next week or the week after, but I don't have any insider knowledge, so that's really just an educated guess :p
