I think the game creates Popes the same way it creates courtiers for you via the intrigue screen (it tends to give you courtiers with pretty nasty downsides probably for balancing reasons)

Well, I can see the Cardinals vote for the biggest nitwit of them all so they can continue scheming and enriching themselves in peace.
It would be cool if PI improves the stat of the randomly generated courtiers. Inbecile/Inbred/Ambitious/Stutter/.. ones are just completely useless. Granted I can invite 50 of them for 250 piety and matri-marry all the bad ones away. But that's just a very boring thing to do!
DLC here, DLC there. Why can't you just wish for a patch that fixes it instead of more and more DLC? It doesn't make any sense. If PI wants to put it into DLC they'll do that, no need to force it on them.
Yes. I'm sure this will be part of a free patch together with a "Playable Theocracies" DLC. I mean... The pope is so important... I don't think this would be a DLC only change.
remember the cardinals system in 'Medieval: Total War'? that is the solution for me..
I really hate it when I spend some of my hard earned money to invite a noble to take over a county only to have him be some total idiot with 0 stats in everything. Same thing with debutantes, it's like they came right out of the gutter. I feel bad marrying them to anyone since they're utter garbage. Having to plot to kill them is just tedious too.

Yeah, so system with "papabiles", as well as sending your clergy members to have a career in Rome in order to become Cardinals (perhaps the Court Chaplain could lose the "Improve Religious Relations" task - as this could be combined with a similar task of the Chancellor - and be capable of being sent to Rome on a church-related mission instead) would be great.
I am not too keen on playable theocracies though, as this would have to do away with the overall concept of playing a dynasty.

If we get a cardinal system I somehow want to buy a seat for exampel my brother and bribe the other cardinals to get the one I want to be pope

I only wish for a more realistic approach of the Papacy and the way Popes get to power. Where are those archbishops and Roman patricians working hard to become Pope? So far it's a lot of different families called "da Roma", with no background and almost no input.
We need cardinals, we need a more integrated Papacy, and we definitely need that the Pope is not someone spontaneously generated! He is supposed to be the Vicar of Christ on Earth, there's a lot of bishops and archbishops in Christendom who would kill for the chance!
