What are the best tutorials and guides out there?

Hi everyone,

I'm someone who has played Hearts of Iron III quite a bit in the past (over 500 hours) and after several years of pause, I'm returning to Hearts of Iron, this time with HOI IV. So far I'm liking it a lot, but I want to learn more about the game's general philosophy, its mechanics, and most of all how it is different from HOI III (quite a lot, as far as I'm can tell after 20 hours of so).

So, are there good tutorials, guides or series on YouTube to watch who can learn a HOI III veteran what he needs to know in order to enjoy HOI IV to the full?
I've been watching Quill18's series on YouTube (the tutorial for beginners), and I definitely need something with more in-depth content.

Depends what sort of depth you're after - most YouTube guides tend to either the beginner or the unique challenge.

If you're after theory crafting the Wiki is probably the best place or asking specific questions on the forum. Paradox have attempted to put as much information / explanation as they can in the game - always check for / read the tooltips!

The general philosophy of the game is to focus on production. When do you alter production lines? Do you go for bits of everything or do you focus on a good workhorse that you can mass produce? Can you produce enough equipment to sustain the level of combat you want? When do you tech rush and how do you use / save NF bonuses?

We need a very slow german historical playthrough with everything explained. Many tutorials on Youtube are much too hasty (click feast).

Thanks, BeauNiddle, there is indeed a lot of information to be found inside the game itself, which I appreciate a lot. Also the in-game access to the HoiIV Wiki is a superb addition. I was just wondering if there were some "must-see" tutorial series out there, and actually this short, five-part series by the developers themselves from just before the release, is pretty good and explains some essential concepts:

I am also reading the developer diaries from the very first ones onwards, and these help a lot to understand the philosophy behind the game and how things were implemented and later on changed during the past four years. That's the kind of information I really like.

It's pretty amazing how much information is here just lying around on these forums. Just browsing through the AAR's (After Action Reports), and I found this one, started back in June 2016 which is partly AAR, partly tutorial for the newcomer to HOI IV, but with quite some knowledge of HOI III.
It's a very interesting AAR playing Poland, actually the nation I'm currently having a go at myself .
