I have not gotten too far in my few hours of playing Germany GC. So I have barely produced any new divisions. But after playing around with the "division designer", the way I call it, I can see some awesome potential for some kick ass stuff.

I think along the lines of maximizing your attack or defense values compared to division width.

I came up with some real neat results. Out of memory:

Infantry divisions are promising consisting of only 2 INF and 2 support thus only 2 wide so you can have 5 in a 10 square front.

I.e. look at this division for defending:
2 inf
1 arty
1 anty tank

or

2 inf
1 arty
1 tank distro

Both 2 wide but the 2nd is more expensive in IC and consumes fuel.

Another promising is

1 light tank
2 motorized inf
1 armored car

For attacking at 8km/h. Only 4 wide but has a good punch on both hard and soft attack.

But I am early in research so I have most of the stuff not available still.
I am thrilled that I will be able to produce divisions just for defending off France while I will have kick ass attack divisions tearing into Poland. Then later I can dismantle them and convert it into something else. This is so much better than having brigades.

So what have you been coming up with?

2 wide is NOT a good idea. Province fronts are 10, true, but allow you to fit a whole other division IF the province has any remaining frontage left. So if you have division frontages of say 3, the last division gets to fight with all its brigades. Effectively giving you a frontage of 12 in the space of 10.

On that note, I'd say always try to have 3 frontage divisions witht the supporting being the 4th (or 5th) brigades.

but for tanks i use:

1 med tank
2 mechs or mots

This is interesting. I have just done some experimenting with the production tab. This is not even at the level of argument to be honest just simply trying to see what number I would come up. To me it seems that 3 may not be the best width. But I am just learning this myself.

For the sake of keeping it simple I have tried to create a German INF division that would maximize my defensiveness value considering frontage.

The max defensiveness I would get for a

3 wide division is:

INF
INF
INF
Tand Destroyer
= 25 defensiveness.

I can fit in 4 of these into a 10 square front. correct? So this gives me 4x25=100 defensiveness max.

2 wide:

INF
INF
AT
AT
= 23 defensiveness.

I can fit in 5 of these. 5x23 = 115 defensiveness max.

1 wide:

INF
TD
TD
TD
= 21 defensiveness. 10x21=210. But with combining 1 wide and have another division that is 4 wide you can go above this number.

So it would seem 1 wide would be the way to go. The problem is you have less soldiers in a 1 wide division than in a 3 wide. I am not sure if this makes a difference or not.

There is probably way more to it than this. Anyone?
