Well you might argue that the real World War I because over something less than major, but what mattered was the diplomatic and military situations set up beforehand.
Exactly. An assassination is nothing big but when national pride, nationalism, and alliances come into play...

You forgot good old fashioned greed. Well, not technically the starter for the war but definitely what drew World War 1 to last as long as it did rather than end in 1915-1916 in a white peace so to speak. Each side wanted the other to pay them war reparations and get their own economies out of the gutter thus it took all the way to 1918 and the US to join the war for it to finally end.

In any case, the point is that World War I didn't start because of a major dispute that could only be solved by force of arms. So, a major war starting because Germany wants control of an island off its coast, and the UK doesn't want to give it up is perfectly legitimate in Victoria 2. In reality, there could probably be a diplomatic solution to such a case - but if Germany feels like it can bully, and indeed might prefer to bully, the UK into giving up the island then that is the course it will pursue.

I think that any dispute in general can be solved without force of arms, but from a geopolitical perspective the "Balkan question" was really much more significant than some minor colonial dispute or a conflict about Heligoland. Whatever happened on the Balkans in 1914 would not only affect Austria-Hungary and Serbia, but also Germany, Russia, the UK and the Ottoman Empire. I can't see great powers mobilizing against each other because of Heligoland.

I can.
The UK, France, and the RUssian Empire seek to contain Germany so the crisis becomes a war because neither side is willing to give up. The German allies and British allies all come in. Both sides get beat up.

I guess its perfectly plausible. After all as late as the 80s, we still had the UK fighting over the Falklands with Argentina. And in terms of game play, it might be a pretext to add wargoals later with jingoism.

It is actually somewhat obsolete...
How so? The HoD expansion is used in the let's play and his play style makes it easy for new players to grasp game mechanics. I'm just saying what work for me and countless others. I will concede that Shenyyr goes far more into depth with the mechanics than Quill for example his videos explaining the many areas in the game.

He does not have the HoD expansion. What are you talking about? I know what I am talking about,

I just checked his videos. He appears to have HoD for his newest stuff. His Belgium Live Stream was with HoD. His most recent You Tube LP with a playlist is Japan, and that only uses AHD. The Belgium Live Stream does not have a playlist so it is harder to find.
Yep, thank you. We were talking about the Japan LP he had.

Not to be offensive, but Quill18 is a horrid Victoria II player :(. And a horrid EU IV player...

He was pretty good at Civ. V though.
