I tend to steer away from tutorials because they usually bore me. I just watched 2 and they ramble about nothing minutes into the video and I just stopped watching. So I came back to the forums to see if anyone knows a let's play by a really good player that is preferably in 1080p.

I've watched some Arumba and countgriffor. Since I am new to the game I have no idea if they are any good. countgriffor's videos look like they are in 480p although it says its in 1080p and are pretty painful to watch.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

There really is no good way to learn to play Victoria well except by grim repetition. That being said, I am in a mp group and a couple of the players upload tutorials/let's plays. Look up slayzer92 or gakumerasara if you want some good videos of decent players playing. Quite frankly, some of the people making tutorials don't really know what they are talking about. Also, of particular note is an economic guide by slayzer, so just look up slayzer economic guide on youtube and you should be good.

I would recommend mixing reading the wiki with experimentation.

Victoria II tutorials are only marginally useful IMO, unless you are actively playing the game while watching the video.

Try this:

Watch this video:

While playing as Prussia. Pause and repeat sections as necessary.

Experiment, reload saves, experiment. Look up things that are confusing or spike your curiosity on the wiki, and ask questions here:

Nice! Thanks for all the suggestions! I watched slayzer play Piedmont Sardinia. I couldn't wait to play so I didn't watch too long I think I watched 3 episodes? Anyway, I had heard that if you take Korea or China early on you can become huge because of the huge population and resources. So as Piedmont Sardinia, I invaded Korea. I took Korea and then I started taking states from China. Long story short, I became a great power soon.

After many years where my whole army was stationed in Korea and China. I brought my army back to Piedmont to try to unify Italy. I had been trying to sphere the various Italian states with no luck. I sphered the Two Sicilies, and France had the Papal states. The rest were firmly entrenched in Austrian hands. I tried investing but it wasn't enough. My diplomats were permanently kicked out of all those Italian states. That was until Austria lost Great power status. I was perfectly in place to sphere all those states. Funny thing was, after I sphered Tuscany, I saw the little icon that comes up when there is a rebellion in one of the countries you sphered. I had seen how a successful rebellion can unsphere the country. I didn't want that so as usual, I sent my troops over to help crush the rebellion. And than after playing for a while another rebellion started in Tuscany. This second rebellion was a lot weaker than the one before. This was when I remembered reading about the Garibaldi event. I moused over the rebels and sure enough it was Garibaldi. OMG, what did I do!?!?!

Tuscany has a stack of 44k which had just helped me take Lombardy from Austria. Garibaldi has a 6k stack and three 3k stacks. France who has Papal States is #1 great power allied to a mega Russia who is vying for 5th place with me. This Russia had been taking land from Northern German Federation, Austria, Poland, Finland, China, etc. I think I just screwed myself.

I did the Cavour's Diplomacy decision and totally regreted it the moment I did it because my colonial power went down due to losing the naval base in Nice. While neither Savoie or Nice are particulary useful for me (except for the naval base), it still doesn't seem like such a good trade off. Gaining the cores in Lombardy means nothing since I intend to unify Italy anyways. I guess if I know I was going to be able to use those 10 infamy for a state rather than a protectorate I'd be willing to do it. Will I still be able to use this decision after I unify Italy? If I could trade those 10 points for Venetia that would be well worth losing those 2 states.

Lucca was indeed the country that ended up losing to Garibaldi and giving me Italy. Modena for whatever reason became the holdout to becoming a part of Italy. I still have Modena sphered and allied. So I think I will break alliance and sphere to go to war using the cores casus belli. Still thinking about if and when I should use Cavour's Diplomacy.

Never, ever use that decision unless you have infamy above 25.

This is an unrelated question, but can you tell me why lets say clothes from my factory aren't selling but I am importing them? Thanks again for all your responses.
You pay your workers too much or raw materials are too expensive in your country. You might not have enough workers or raw material.

also overproduction is shared among all nations kinda equal. So if the world produces loads of clothes your factory's will also not sell parts even if you still import from others.

I always recommend reading 'for noob ARRs' here on the forum. They are often entertaining and very informative. I learned most from a Japan one forgot the title must be buried now deep in the forums.
Very useful since most have nice pictures and graphs to explain stuff and you can always check back =).

But that's the thing. There is a worldwide shortage of clothes and it is consistently one of my top 3 imports. But, for some reason my clothes factory has unsold clothes and is losing money. It doesn't always happen, but when it happens it baffles me.

But that's the thing. There is a worldwide shortage of clothes and it is consistently one of my top 3 imports. But, for some reason my clothes factory has unsold clothes and is losing money. It doesn't always happen, but when it happens it baffles me.
Your goods are way too expensive for people to afford.

Either that, or there isn't enough fabric to go around.

Then someone above you produces more clothes than their POP's can afford to buy. And you'r POP's get to buy what is left. There are also weird interaction with your sphere which i can't really explain. Since Sphere overlord get first pick of resource type goods there must be another buy sell tic within the internal market that can mess up the economy. Sphere master also seem to sell first their cheap product to the sphereling.

Like Clothes are a need and a resource good. So the Sphere master factories get first pick on the clothes to buy, but it is also a cheap good that get sold to the POP's. With goods like that i observed these weird interactions severaltimes, especial if you and your spehere produce and use them in a chain.

All from my observations of the game no hard evidence and seems to be hardcoded deep in the game.

I suspect the design idea behind this was to produce low leel goods in your sphere and higher in your own country. Which goes against the chain bonus introduced in HoD. But that came later to the game so it's unintuitive.

Here is the thing. I am rank 1. I moused over the production and the clothes are produced with 3.457 not sold for example. I check under trade and see clothes are in high demand. I also see that clothes is one of the top 3 imports I have. In fact it has been top 3 import for decades cause I don't have enough craftsman. I want my craftsman producing cars, planes etc.

Occasionally, I will go into production to check to make sure my factories are doing good. For example I see some of my factories are short on rubber and cannot produce products. I check and see that France is 2nd rubber producer. I go to war with France and take their rubber producing states in Africa. But sometimes I will see this weird thing where clothes aren't selling and it would seem there is nothing I can do and it doesn't make sense. Then the clothes factory will go into the green again making a profit and selling all the clothes it produces.

It's not weird at all. It's simply how the game mechanics work. When it comes to selling goods, all nations sell their goods simultaneously to the market and when nations buy goods from the market they buy it evenly from every country that sold that good. So even if you produce 1k clothes for example and your pop uses just 800, you're first trying to sell all your clothes to the market, and since everyone else does too some of your goods don't get sold, than your pops buy their goods from the market(they buy first since you're ranked #1), but remember many nations sold goods to the market so your pops aren't necessarily buying the goods your own factories sold, they're buying evenly from every nation that sold clothes.

Thanks for sharing. If what you say is true I guess that explains it.

But, are you sure? I thought your pops always buy goods produced in your own country first before looking to buy elsewhere?

Yes, that's how it should work. However if you have negative tariffs and your pops can just barely afford to buy their goods than goods from the public market will be cheaper than from the local market(due to the negative tariffs which aren't imposed on the local market) which in turn leads to your pops and factories to buy these goods from the public market instead. If you aren't running negative tariffs than it's indeed a bit strange and we'll need more information to solve it.
