How can a team maximize the total actions-per-minute of all team members?

Victory often goes to the faction that can focus the most APMs on a specific front.

  • Microing is important for focusing APMs
  • Macroing has less effect on APMs, but still is important
  • Management "the 3rd 'M' " © (Leadership) can very much boost APMs on a specific front. A good manager will assess the players and identify ways to maximize each players' APMs .

Techniques to increase overall team APM include:
  • Assign areas of responsibilities (AoR) so that one player minds the smallest geographical area as practical. AoR commanders have overall responsibility for coordinating operations in their AoR.
  • Liberally use the diplomatic feature, "Provide Expeditionary Forces". If one player has divisions in another AoR commander's region, the player can give (if possible) those divisions to the AoR commander to ensure unity of effort
  • Use the APMs of minor nation players. Don't allow minor nation players sit around, "doing nothing". For example, in one game, a Germany player gave the Hungary player 40 or so German cavalry units for HUN to use as needed. Those HUN cavalry units were always in motion, conducting amphibious assaults, taking empty enemy provinces, constantly harassing the enemy. At the end of the game, Hungarian (GER) cavalry had taken Hawaii.
  • Keybind units using <CTRL> 1 (2, 3, 4 ...) High APM Starcraft players assign units to keys to allow for rapid transitions between units. (But you all know about such things!)

What techniques can you think of to increase overall team APM?
