Can anyone put definite statements on benefits? And how if at all can I check which one is best (== gives biggest bonuses to me).

Of course from the point of view of mildly Free Trade nation, that want to invest into trade.

PS Are there any benefits for nations not interested in trade?

Trade Stations -1 RR +10% tax. Great early on

Trade rights. +66% production eff. -25% trade income from the good asked for. In most early game cases. Without your own CoT its a good deal.

The biggest advantage and least understood is the compete chance bonus your league owner gives when sending.merchants.

What if you have a CoT yourself? Are the benefits decreased?

The benefits are the same there are just some additional thing to think about.

Take France at the start of the game has Ile-de-France a 177 ducat CoT. Which will slowly wither away and die at that size. Say Genoa asks for wine. Then all the wine in France will now trade in Liguria. Champagne 21.3, Languedoc 18.7, Toulouse 20.9. Which are the 3 largest territories in the CoT. Now your 177 CoT is 60.9 ducats smaller and quickly withering to stagnation.

That doesn't take into account the loss in tax and population growth for losing a significant chunk of your CoT size.

It depends on if your trading in the League CoT and will see the trade income from a foreign CoT rather than your own.

Basically the benefits are more complicated.

When I play as warmongering blobby nations in Europe(which I always do). I join Novgorod's trade league, because one way or other I'm gonna get into a war with Genoa, Venice or The Hansa. When I join Novgorod's league, none of my provinces are trading there cause I'm so far away. All of em are trading through my cots. So am I doing it right? Is this a viable thing to do?

It also helps if you have mercantile sliders. You get to use Novgorod's +2 Free Trade in foreign COTs.

This is why it's usually best to join Novgorod's trade league. However, it's important to note that if you have more infamy than the leader does, you don't get their trade benefits.

If you are a warmonger like me, there is no chance of that. So the only benefit for me is the trade stations which come up every now and then giving a small bonus to my lands.

Trade Rights can be signed ONCE by any trade league. So if you are outside of TL you can have 3 such deals. (See it once in England!)
Than you can join TL, since joining TL do not dissolve Tride Right deals.

So its one of negaitves of TL.
