i decided to play an eep byzantium game on hard/aggressive, cos i wanted to see all of their cool events.

so figure, i will just build cavalry and sit in thrace when at war with ottomans, heck, it worked last time!!!

so, even with 20kcav, about 9k inf and Konstantinus IX (did i get all that right) the ottomans still whip my arse with 3k inf ONLY and no leader. repeatedly. now i wouldn't mind so much, but, my army gets devestated down to 13k cav. this has happened numerous times, and i have max army maitenance, so i am missing something???

maybe i should be clearer as to what happens.

over all i have played about 6/7 times now, the first couple militarily everything was fine, i just screwed them ones up myself  but after that, i have had, 3kinf 1kcav destroy me, 10k mix, 5k mix, and simililar. only once have they used one of their leaders, and even then it was in a ridiculosly sdmall army, all attacking from anatolia/smyra (sp?). :(

Well they do have that muslim morale boost, and morale is so low in the early years that any battle is a bit of a crapshoot anyway.

But 3k infantry shouldn't be able to deal such heavy casualties on your cavalry. Especially with all the combat modifiers in your favor.

thats what i was thinking, its ot that it happened, its that it keeps happening, when usually 20kcav and 10kinf (even without a leader) should be virtually impregnable from any turk attack involving less then 40k troops - or this usually has been the case.

....

The Ottomans are Sunni muslim, so they shouldn't have a morale boost (that's for Shiite). :)

But it is strange you've lost so many times. Are your starting DP settings different with EEP vs no EEP? (Thinking quantity/qual, naval/land or free/serf). Maybe that's making your morale worse so that you're loosing many battles.

Alternative maybe the Ottomans in EEP are much better with these settings than in non-EEP.

that max serfdom will hurt your morale, as well as quantity. i'm having to readjust my sliders to get a better morale boost so i can fight the turks without getting my ass kicked. i have a better land tech level but they still kick me all over the place due to their higher morale.

I find that a cavalry only army is more effective then a mixed one. Get rid of your infantry!

Still it is bullshit. It doesn't make sense that it could happen. Probably one of those one time bugs. I think MKJ is right, just restart.

I know, why such possible battle result happen. I played China, and most of this high populated cities don't have a fortification. I cannot understand the sense of this. The strangest thing was a lonely rider of Annam simply roaming through the country and occupying half china. I sent a cavalry regiment after him, but after a long battle, suffering heaviest casualties, the survivors of this massacre retreated. This shows the paradoxon and shows what is going on. Obviously Paradox has implemented the occurance of god-heros, and kept it secret.

There has been a secret implementation of some sort. The "god heroes" you speak apply when your enemy has only one army remaining. If the army is not divided and there are no troops being built, you get freakish battles where your enemy obviously has fire6 and shock6 or something. I have been attacked in the woods by 400 infantry at less than half morale against my 22K cavalry at superior and full moral with an overwhelming tech advantage and lost the battle and 6k cavalry.

There are many occurances of this freakish "last army AI bonus". I recommend that if you notice the enemy has only one remaining army and you are suffering unexplainable heavy casualties in battle, you might want to retreat to repeat the battle again when a small detachment has split off or the enemy is building new troops. Try to leave at least one small enemy army running around or troops in the build queue when you attack the enemy's largest force. Sometimes your enemy will not split or build new troops until you attack. In such case, just kill 2k of his force then retreat. He will probably start building new troops.
