Hmm, if trying to trigger the event in the province itself causes a crash, has anyone tried the culture conversion provevent code in the adjacent province from which the culture would be spreading?

Province spread events can't be triggered through the console, they always will result in a crash

But I wondered if that may be because people have been opening up the province they want to convert and typing in the code. Maybe the way to do it is to open up a province that is already your culture from which you want the conversion to spread? In the illustration above, for instance, you'd open up Bohemia to type provevent xxxx.

With the official 1.05 patch. If we assume that Praha has a different culture, and all other requirements are fulfilled, then culture will spread as illustrated below(in my experience).

Bohemia.jpg

Green arrows indicates possible culture spread, red arrows impossible. It would seem that culture cannot spread directly from one demesne province to another within the same demesne.
I never had problems with that.

Nor have I. I've had it spread to contiguous provinces in my demense. Then again, my cultural spread values have been heavily tweaked as well.

@jorian & Justinian_A: Are you two sure that, with 1.05, it didn't spread from a neighbouring vassal? As shown in the image, if you get a conversion in Plzen, it could seem as if it originated in Praha while it did, in fact, originate in Hradec Kralove. And Justinian, what tweaks have you made?

The same that Alexandre has suggested. I posted a couple weeks ago asking him for the changes, it should be in this forum or the Beta one. Basically, it nullifies the penalties for religious buildings, removes the nowar condition, and makes extensive roadnets and harbors more conducive to change.

No you will get a CTD with every province spread event.

None of those things should make a difference though...

I'd very much like to know exactly if it's working or not for you. Could you possibly spare a half-hour someday and create a fool-proof test, such as in the picture I posted? I'd be very grateful :)

Sure, I'll give it a try tonight. I'll just need to set the MTTH insanely low so I can make sure it happens before I want to pass out.

I do remember, however, playing King of Rus, that Russian culture spread to Torki, and I had Kiev and Galich in my personal demense. Galich borders Torki. Also, Oleshye turned Russian when I had Pereyaslavl in my personal demense. Mind you, my capital is in Novgorod.

Question

So, by the Praha picture, in this picture I am Castile:

sexh7p.jpg

That, if I had owned Soria, and that being Castilian (which it is), it cannot spread to Molina, but since my vassal owns the two provinces next to Molina, with burghers/noble with higher power, that it has a higher chance of spreading culture through the province?

@Silvanus02: yes and yes. Now, even if you had owned Soria it could spread from Valladolid, so in that patricular case it wouldn't make too much difference. And higher burgher and/or noble power increases the chance of a conversion happening.

I've had it spread via trade links to provinces that weren't contiguous to any other same culture provinces: e.g, Greek from Byzantium to Tana or Olivia. I've also had it *not* spread to some issolated, surrounded non-plain province for centuries.

You mean that it has spread from, say, Byzantion to Tana while you had both provinces in your demesne? With the official 1.05 patch/update? That is in fact directly opposite to my experience: even with a MTTH of 100 days I was unable to spread occitan culture from Provence to Napoli as long as I held both provinces in my own demesne.

Feel free to post the changes you've made to your conversion event, I'd really like to try it out.

I haven't been caring very much about cultural changes as I haven't understand yet what's the point of that (I can understand that it can give me satisfaction to spread my ruler culture in all the world, but does this increase troops or gold? I'm not sure, but I haven't realised so).

Anyway playing with 1.04 starting with 1066 scenario being an italian and after I got Byzantine Emperor, maybe after around let's say around 100 years of continuative italian kings in Byzantine I got a cultural change there from greek to italian. And that really surprised me as it was the first time I ever saw stg like that in CK.

Well, it's quite useful to spread your culture if you intend to convert the game to EUII later on, since in EUII it does matter quite a bit, not to mention that it's generally impossible to change culture in that game.

I know that it didn't before, but does the culture of a ruler now effect his vassals? I just want this clearifed, as I belive it don't, so that a good strategy might be to revoke a duke, give it to a courtier/count of the same culture as the ruler so that he will in time remove the titles of his vassals to give them to his offsprings, who will hopefully be of his culture as well.

I believe that a vassal may be more likely to marry a state-cultured bride instead of staying within his own people.

I believe religious stringency aids in religious conversion. Not sure if the rest do anything, though.
