Can anyone throw me a bone here? As I see playing as an HRE prince (Pomerania for example) you have a hard time trying to expand as Austria will always get in the way protecting HRE countries.
On the other hand there are ways...for example if you attack an external territory and a member of HRE intervene as his allies you can make it a co-belligerant and go for his land.

But is this the only way? What about maybe waiting for Austria to be busy with other wars? Will it always intervene or rather let me be being busy in otherplaces?

Thanks guys!

With the 1.8 patch you now see if the emperor chooses to intervene to protect the state under attack or not, BEFORE you declare war (this is definitely very powerful in ironman, too powerful). The factors are : is the emperor already embroiled in a war? Manpower, WE, relative strength of alliances, etc. The best way to avoid that is to be emperor yourself, of course, or to make sure the emperorship eludes austria and goes to someone insignificant (like bohemia). I'm not sure how to do it, maybe by blobbing the electors so that they won't vote for austria.

(On a side note : calling the emperor in defense of the HRE and conceding defeat is a very good way to generate IA and pass reforms when you're still a prince)

Ah thanks guys...
Now I stumbled in what seems to be a bug. Denmark delcared war to Teutonic for danzig. During the war Danzig was given to Poland (due to another war coming to an end) so now Denmark has occupied all the teutonic territories (no Danzig of course) and no peace triggers...it's been like this for 10 years.
Should I trash the game?
