Hello,

My question is in the title:
Is it or will it be possible to run AoW4 on a PC under linux or unix ?
Possibly with an emulation layer, obviously...

I'm currently looking to buy a new PC (mainly because of AoW4 !), and at the same time I'm looking at what OS I'm going to put on it.

Microsoft is getting worse and worse, with this obligation to create an account for win11 (great... and if the drivers are not installed yet, what happens? Who's the genius at µ$ who had this idea ?)

Windows... I'm bored !

@Paradox: You really have to think about it for your games.

I don't think I'll stay on Window for much longer.
But I'd love to keep playing the AoW series !

I play Planetfall (and many other games) on Linux. It works fine. I didn't even invest a lot of work. Installed Lutris, installed GOG Galaxy using that and I just install Windows games via Galaxy to have the simple update procedure. I bought AoW4 without thinking about it. It will work out of the box or soon after.

If you are planning on a new system, just make sure you go for a modern AMD card. The open source drivers for AMD just work while nVidia makes you jump through additional hoops.

First, I'd like to apologize.

Even though I am not a dev, I can answer this. Yes, it will be "possible".

Many things are possible. Possible doesn't imply that a thing will actually occur, only that it might occur.

Whether it runs well or not, many things are possible to run on Linux.

Well if you hate Microsoft but don't mind Steam the Proton emulation usually works for most games these days unless they include anti-cheat systems. Which I don't believe AOW4 is going to.

Neither Triumph nor Paradox have a particularly strong history with anti-cheat and DRM software. Their support for the modding community is more than likely a significant reason for this. Triumph games doesn't even disable achievements if you cheat or mod your game.

As for Linux, generally speaking, Steam does an excellent job with Proton, so there's a very good chance you'll be able to run the game regardless of official support.
