I would actually hate if Victoria becomes to much like HoI - especially regarding units and research. Sure, the tech tree in HoI was great, but I'm afraid that if implemented in Victoria it would take focus of other more important things.

And I see no need for all those different units either, a basic system like the one in EU2 (perhaps with just a few more unit types) would suit me well. And I too would REALLY hate to have the air unit clickfest like in HoI...

You are right Hive, please don't make the end game of Victoria being pushing airplanes and tanks around.

I am against buildable tank units in this game. The tanks offered a considerable increase in the attacker's strength, but they were attached to infantry units, and did not act independently. If you allow tank units, you gotta' allow artillery units too, for example, and there you go, focus of the game is lost.

Besides, imagine multiplayer end-games with tanks: WWII blitzkrieg style in 1900...

I'm personally hoping the HOI-esque tech role is expanded and not the other way around. HOI had one of the deepest and most enjoyable research systems I've ever had the pleasure of playing. As long as the techs are more intertwined with each other, I can only see expanding on that idea a plus. I also really hope the beginning of air and armored power is better represented than just brigades. I seem to be one of the few who thinks 'more is good' posting against a sea of 'just refine what we already have' though.

I think it will make a difference when the tech tree is not so focused on military improvements as in HOI.
In the Victoria timeframe there was so much more to discover and invent in order to industrialise and modernise your country.

Yes, in HoI all techs (or almost all, at least) are about improving military capabilities. I truely hope that Victoria will offer us a more broad tech tree to work with (including things like Industry, Infrastructure, Trade and such).

Brigades would be nice!
Even if they were independent units I don't think their top speed of 5 mph would constitute blitz krieg though :p

A much broader tech tree would be nice. So that it covers more with the general industrialization, maybe even include other more political issues, like women voting etc. I see no reason why there shouldn't be overlap between "researchable" techs/things/policies and historical/random events ?
That could give the player more control.

Hey, that was still 5mph faster than the pinned down infantry! But I totally agree, armor had tactical mobility, not operational. The breakdown rate was incredible.

I agree with those who thinks these additions can be handled within the framework of a simple combat system. Artillery was much more important throughout the era than tanks or planes ever were, and it seems like we'll get by fine with a very simple system as in EU2.

Aside from that, tactical complexity just adds another advantage for the human over tha AI.
