"If you don't like the game giving you random rulers, pick from between less than 10% of all starts, with exactly 1 option outside of Europe. Alternatively, wait until you've completed 2 idea groups when the most impactful timeframe of good or bad luck has passed, then still rely on luck to get a situation that allows you to finally switch to a less luck-dependent government."

Yeah, no sell. They even stealth-removed noble rebels forcing you into a republic, though they were fine telling us when they started doing that in 1.6.

And what else was removed from player agency? Rev counter-rev, no now you must sit on 19 provinces or less and HOPE you get a weak heir/no heir in a reasonable timeframe (never mind the 1000's of monarch points potentially gained or lost to that point in random distributions), because random is good design, even when players want less of it.

What about revolutionaries? Only if you're lucky enough to get them, and they make no passing effort at actually enforcing their demands, preferring to siege in random directions including away from your capitol and you can't accept those either.
Don't forget you also have the option of Colonial Nations, they start as republics and only require two ideas unlocked to make. You can even release them really fast if you don't want to play as a subject nation.

Why are you offering excuses for poor game design? In the end, the RNG-dependent Monarchs are awful. This thread, thankfully, it full of good ideas to make the game more interesting. I'd love the ability to abdicate to my heir if he was better, for the cost of a crapload of legitimacy or stability. It's taking a risk. I'm getting rid of a ruler and losing some points/resources on the bet that the better ruler will be around long enough for me to reap the benefit.

In other words, pick a European start and jump ship to the new world, with no functional difference between just picking Friesland and sneaking QFTNW to get over there other than 1.8 introducing an undefended game mechanic to make CNs better than a Dutch or Tuscan relocation.

But it's still a European start, and one that has the same "start with monarchy or pick European republic" nonsense that the others have.

Im glad lots of players liked the idea. Still got no paradoxian replies btw!

I would say for example a force abdication should be a kinda real peace deal if a country OVEREXTENDED or get a TOTAL DEFEAT in an OFFENSIVE WAR...
