All right, let me get this straight, the brazilian nationality is PORTUGUESE?

In 1820, we had 3 million habitants, 50% negroes (with an african nationality, from the west coast), 25% indian (from 2 major nationalities: Tupi and Guarany) from those indian a good part was also slave. And the rest 25% was from portuguese, BRAZILIANS, and some other europeans, some dutch in NE among others.

And to straight even more they formed 2 distinct political parties de liberals and conservadore (Brasilians vs Portuguese)

In 1870, we had 14,3 million habitans, granted by the government effort to support european immigration (italy, polish and germans) and also came some japanese later on. They established residence on SE and S regions of the country.

Since now I call my fellow brazilian to reinvidicate a BRAZILIAN nationality.

Sorry for the Caps.

I totally agree with you about all the above.

The Mexicans and probably also many other Latin American countries by extension would seem to have Spanish nationality in Vicky, so it is not just Brazil that is treated like this, guys.

I don't think there will be much of a radical change in this regard now that the game's practically out (I could be wrong, of course).

But, in any case, good luck attempting... :D

Well, hold on...we don't know for certain, really, whether or not this is the way it is. It may be that in Brazil another ethnicity is given. We know, for instance, from the Spanish screenshots that Cuba has a creole ethnicity. It is more than possible that this would be the case for Brazil.

Naturally, it wouldn't be creole. :D

I think we need Patric or someone to give us info on this. If there isn't a Brazilian ethnicity, from my mediocre knowledge of the events concerning Brazilian independence, I think there ought to be. It would seem to me that the Brazilian nation was more or less born from the waves of Europeans that came with the Pombaline reforms, and the arrival of the Portuguese court after Junot's conquest.

I guess that no brazilian see itself as german, italian, african or portuguese. We have a nationality wich is Brazilian and thats all.

BTW, I have just changed my avatar to this BEAUTIFUL flag, but I´m still brazilian and I completely support my friends claim for brazilian nationality.

And if there is a Yankee, why not BRAZILIAN!!!
I will post here till I get some brazilians.

I think that a Brazilian nationality would indeed be very appropriate. Despite of our very rich cultural mixture and origin, the habits and culture of people don't change too much when you travel by the country. Even the language, the sounds don't change; just to have an idea, the Portuguese spoken on different regions of Portugal can be way more different than the Portuguese spoken on the different regions of Brazil, and I'm sure it doesn't come from a short time ago...

But perhaps for Vicky timeframe there should be a Brazilian nationality as well as Tupi, Spanish (or Uruguayan, Argentine, Praguayan, which fits better) since on the south many people still spoke Spanish by those days and had "spanish" culture and, for the later scenarios, a bit of Italian, German and Japanese.

Well, we don't know it isn't in there already...

I could see a valid argument that the Mexicans didn't have a distinct nationality from Spanish yet, while the Brazilians did. As we saw in the 1861 screenshot, it would appear that there does exist a creole ethncity alongside the Spanish ethnicity in Cuba.

AFAIK, we haven't seen any Brazilian screenshots. So there may well be Brazilians - and my guess is that they have at least one Brazilian beta tester that would share in your zeal.

No. No brazilian was chosen for the Vicky's beta and, even if one was chosed, he/she couldn't give any information because it would be under his/her NDA.

Yeah, at the time of independence there was two parties - the brazilians Liberais and the portuguese Conservadores, as PMFL said.

In my home state of Bahia the war of independence took two years with brazilians fighting portuguese troops until the portugueses sieged in Salvador surrendered, after the english mercenary admiral Chrochane (i forgot how to spell the name) arrived, blockading the Todos os Santos Bay.

But maybe there is a brazilian nationality. Lets see when the game cames out.

But there isn't a Mexican ethnicity like the Dixie one, for instance. What they apparently did about the Latin American ethnicities is likei f they decided that the American ethnicity was English instead of Dixie, Yankee and Texan.

Brazilian independence - a Portuguese view

Let me add this much. As I see it, the Brazilian Independence is not driven by a National conscienceness. It was clearly an Aristocratic/personal moove - it can not be compared with the global revolt in the British North American colonies. Economic interest should not be forgotten in this.

That does not mean that a Portuguese Nationality is the most adequate description of the European Descendants share of Brazil' population at independence, even though Portuguese descendents should be the majority of the that share of population. We must admit that Brazil is (and to some extent was) all about mixing nationalities and origins.

It was not a war of independence, for sure, as it was in spanish america or in the 13th colonies. There were few episodes of war - most only the fight in Bahia, wich begun a year before the official date of independence and ended a year later and some popular disturbies in Pará, but the tensions between brazilians and portugueses did existed.

In Rio de Janeiro Brazilians and portugueses fought in a episode almost like that of that movie with DiCaprio about New York some time before the independence. The portuguese monopolized most of the commerce and were hated by the brazilians.

But for sure the independence was set in motion by the aristocratic party and by the prince regent D. Pedro and his father D. João, who didnt want to lose Brazil to the more radical factions, as the portuguese were putting much pressure in returning Brazil to the former lower colonial status.

We must admit that Brazil is (and to some extent was) all about mixing nationalities and origins.

As I said from 3 million, half was african ethinies from the portuguese colonies there, a quarter south american indians (tupi and guarani) and the last quarter was divided among portuguese and brazilians. I realy dont know how was distributed but I believe something like 60/40 portuguese/brazilian

And late 19th 5 millions europeans came to Brazil (polish, italian and germans, mostly.) Ahh the culture that we aquire with soap operas!!!
