You should be on Victoria 3 level of not understanding UI functionality and fucntions to forcibly separate perfectly customizable outliner to planets AND ship tabs.

The very thought of separating shipyards and ships into two different tabs is alone a reason to cut someone's bonus.

While I don't agree with the tone of the message I agree with the message.

Bases should be on the ships tab and then put factions on the Government tab instead. I am never going to have enough factions to warrant a tab and bases more align with ships.

I am not even go into the veritable pooh show that scientist traits are at the moment

i feel you, and the outliner is basically a mess overall, both the previous version and the current implementation.

tabs in the outliner are a good idea, i think, but would have been completely unnecessary if we had the ability to sort things better. we need to be able to move fleets up and down, re-order and re-organize starbases and orbital rings better, etc.

There are basic QOL improvements that would help with the 'Endless Scroll' that starts to develop when you have a ton of branch offices, holdings, fleets and populated sectors, like allowing alpha sort for all objects or 'available to build on' sort for BOs and Planets/Habs, etc etc. Or in the case of Envoys, more advanced multi sorts for 'working->task sort->alpha sort by empire where working' than the bananas alpha sort by Envoy name alone...

BUT...

having 300 objects in a Scroll menu is its own problem too, even with the ability to hide a significant fraction as needed.

I cant understand how there is no option to reverse the change or at least hotkeys for shuffeling through the tabs. Yeah lategame and scrolling is annoying but klicking through the tabs in the early game made me mad in less than 10 mins. This is just a complete mess.

There are scroll problems and there are basic logic. Splitting most clicked parts of an outliner into two sparate tabs is anything but logical. You are not hiding production in HoIIV behind 5 pop-up menus or coring withing some 3 tier ledger in EUIV (unless you are Victoria 3)

I, for one, am enjoying the new tabbed outliner. It was a bit off putting at first but after a few minutes it made more sense than before and is far easier than ever. I'm up to my 5th tab and I'm only 17 years into the game. No astral rifts though. Only 10% of a medium size galaxy explored and not one astral rift. I guess only players that keep giving PDX money have access to them.

Oh well. But Kudos! on the new tabbed outliner. It is a MAJOR improvement over before.

The best fix would be to keep the tab names and icons but the gear icon allow us to choose from any selection offered... so we could bring civilian ships; I wish I could separate science ships from that; to the front tab and push bases to another but also have the ability to have the same selection across different tabs.

examples of other issues, the faction screen has observation and integration selections and both of those are very well suited to the government screen.

Right now because I have to swap back and forth to see my scouts early game and manage planets I actually do not like the new UI at all.

So to reiterate, allow us to choose any selection for any tab with of course an option to reset to default. That way I can have information I want and feel related per tab even if I have the same information on more than one tab

I think that the main problem is not an outliner itself, but the missing hotkeys. They are in both cases force you to either scroll or choose these tabs with mouse. I have 80% keyboard with 87 buttons and I only use 0-9 + z,x,c,m. There should be hotkeys for these sections.

The tabs should have been "jump to the starts of the section" buttons, and clicking again on the same tab should be "jump to the end of the section".

But I would also love the ability to open multiple outliners, one next to the other, or stacked like windows.

My take on it:
Being able to choose a category with a hotkeys for both outliner and planet buildings would already be a huge improvement. The keys Q up to P can be easily set to correspond to all kind of sections.
Yeah, we do need a lot more hotkeys.
Imagine me saying this, that I don't play multiplayer.

As a starcraft 2 player with master league I literally never use the UI. There is simply never a need for it, every single action is done via hotkeys. I wish that Stellaris would get hotkeys for all actions on planets, with ships and UIs. That would remove so much unnecessary scrolling and mouse movements.

Make it so you can seperate the outliners and drag and drop the Tabs around the screen.

This is the perfect execution.

What we have now is simply atrocious and adds pointless admin to my empire management and slows down my game.

This is a step backwards. But the above could be good.

A lot of the changes and additions that I dislike in Stellaris can be boiled down to pure personal preference, but in this case, I really can't describe this as anything other than a downgrade from what we had before. I launched a new game once the patch dropped and basically quit out of frustration ten minutes in due to having to constantly switch between tabs just to access basic info about my empire.

What this change does, players could already do before, by collapsing every category in the Outliner and only opening the one they were interested in, a click-intensive method that we are now all forced to use no matter our preferences. I know how "literally unplayable" is this funny meme and all, but... yeah, right now this change has made playing Stellaris downright unappealing to me.

If there was a hotkey to switch between them I would be happy as a clam. F1 and f2.. (for instance.. i know they are set to other things atm, but let us configure them). As it is, having to click with the mouse is my only complaint really.

paradox are famously bad at ui for decade

eh really? Maybe I haven't played as many paradox games as others here but I feel like they're good at ui. I don't mean famously good (like, say, Amplitude) but: Stellaris for the most part, Hearts of Iron IV, Age of Wonders IV, with it's lovely lovely nested tool tips...

"Famously bad"?? I don't understand where that's coming from
