What a he*&# are these and how do I remove those without restarting the game?

If it's not that, only thing I can think of is a mod causing an issue.

It's something that didn't get cleared when you exited a system view. I can't remember how I made it happen, I think clicking on an AI controlled ship which left the system or something.

Quit to desktop and reload will clear it.

Yeah, by the time I thought to edit my post and add this, someone beat me to it. Most visual glitches in the game can be fixed by a game reload.
