Haven't played CK2 since 1.4 or 1.3 I reckon - today I updated the game to the newest 1.7 patch (no mods).
1st Shocker: Launched a game as (my favourite faction) Guiscard's Normans. Feeling confident for being a battle hardened Norman duke I went on a holy war for Palermo and Syracuse, Deus Vult! I sailed my army to seize Palermo, their capital, while the enemy equal in size laid siege to Messina. Messina quickly fell and the infidels marched (now slightly outnumbered) towards my siege of Palermo. Battles to come;

800 Defensive Normans (Roberts warrior modifier) vs 750 Attacking Sicilian Infidels. Battle lost.

(Surving army disbanded and raised)

500 Attacking Normans vs 350 Defensive Infidels. Battle lost!

(Surving army disbanded and raised)

400 Attacking Normans vs 200 Defensive Infidels. Battle lost!!

..GOD WILL'S IT NOT? (Has the importance of technology gone up or how do you explain this?)

2nd Shocker: Guiscard soon died and having the gravelkind inheritance law my baby brother inherited the Duchy of Calabria. As being next in the inheritance line 'ASSASSINATION' came to mind. ..It would cost me 250!!! Bloody hell has assassinations cost gone up like 5 times? (A Bit ridiculous price for a small Duchy earning 1,5-2 per month)

Feel free to give me a heads up for any other big changes I have to be aware off in 1.7!

Plots, only use plots to kill people. You can use plots to kill ALMOST everyone. Just click on thier portrait and go to thier diplomacy screen. There you will see a small purple knife right under thier portrait like you would for plots. That is where you go to plot to kill most people.

P.S. Yes all assassination costs have gone up. The cost of it determines on the rank of the person.

Might have something to do with techs and leader traits, along with a bit of bad luck.

You could always try some mods such as the Prince and the Thane and CK2+, they are quite good.

It is much cheaper to plot an assassination than to send an assassin.
