Neat, our first event. :)

I have a few questions for clarification (sorry):

(1) Are the "political and economic leaders" in question affiliated with the training camps mentioned and with ETA, or are they just caught in the crossfire of the crackdown, so to speak (Morocco taking the opportunity to get rid of political adversaries)?

(2) Are the "political and economic leaders" associated/identical with the "Islamic fundamentalists" mentioned later on, or are they separate groups?

(3) Since the newswire mentions provision of assistance to "other" terror groups, have the "political and economic leaders" in question committed acts of political violence (and what kind), or does that refer to other groups in Western Sahara (see above)?

(4) What precise measures has Morocco been taking, and against whom?

1, 2) Unknown. The group is of fairly signifigant size, about 60 prominent families of varying backgrounds, that are prominent in the W. Sahara right movemant, some are not neccesarily economic/political powerhouses (even by W.Sahara standards :D ). Eutopian intelligence is lacking in this area. It is thought that some of these families must undoubtedly have extensive connections to "freedom fighters."

3.) The "other" terroist groups named by Spain/France/Morocco at this point are only directly shown to be the ETA basque movment.

4.) Morocco has launched a massive military crackdown, including martial law in many urban centers; it has little media coverage, and no official state coverage

-----

Local fisherman have recently noted French fishing trawlers working shoals closer to Eutopian fishing fleet grounds.

The positon of the international Anglican Church has been to encourage refugee admissions, especially in the case of religious persecution (even non-Christian) or the denial of human rights and freedoms.

But such charity would not likely extend to known terrorists and/or violent criminals.

Thus, it is important to find out if these are actually ETA members, or leaders of violent opposition groups, or if they are simply dissidents or liberation sympathizers.

The desire for independence should not be grounds for imprisonment or death. But quite obviously we do not want terrorist training camps established in Eutopia.

As a representative of the church I would suggest a case by case evaluation of each family by our government, and the selective acceptance of those seeking assylum who do not pose a threat to our country.

Their desire to continue to campaign for independence and human rights from outside the Western Sahara should not be held against them, so long as such activities are not of a violent nature.

Sincerely,

Rev. Jack Teano

Hmm...
We need to have an investigation into if these people are terrorists or not.
However Marocco usualy doesn't treat dissidents very well.
But i say we give them temporary asylum and investigate while they are here.
When they are here they will at least not be sumaricaly tried and executed.

(I'm writing in solely as a concerned semi-prominent citizen)

It seems to me that they should be granted temporary asylum, but closely monitored until we've seperated terror suspects from ordinary refugees. We should also allow/invite US, French, Spanish intel agencies to interview/question them. One of the less populated islands along the Eastern coast might be good for security purposes.

As for the fish treaty, human rights are more important than halibut rights. Morocco isn't in a position to demand a whole lot from us.

These "terrorists" would be deemed freedom fighters anywhere else but the Muslim world. Besides, these people, while prominent citizens, are not soldiers. I believe they should be given asylum. Personal opinion.

Perhaps they are not terrorists themselves.
But they encourage others to become terrorists!
How can a peacefull Nation as Eutopia invite separatist-republican terrorists on our soil?!
We should support Morroco! Western Sahara belongs to the Kingdom of Morroco, as it was given to them by Spain and Mauretania! If these so-called freedom-fighters want "freedom" for the South of Morroco, then they should try to get elected in Parliament and demand independence there!
The fact that they train terrorists for ETA, another terrorist separatist organisation, says it all.

NO TERRORISTS ON EUTOPIAN SOIL!!

Eutopia can’t remain ignorant to what’s going on here. Under the pretence of fighting a war against terrorism, Morocco is wiping out any resistance to their unjust claims on the Western Sahara territory, and is commiting near-genocide in the process. Morocco has proven that it can’t be trusted that it will respect the culture and independence of the people involved, as it’s already supressing the cultural identity of the Berber population.

The government of Eutopia shouldn’t shrink from doing the right thing in this precarious situation. These people should be screened for their motivations, but they and their families are welcome in this free land to continue their campaign. Eutopia should also encourage the UN to take an active stance on the continuing repression of the people of the Western Sahara.

We shouldn’t be afraid of blackmail through the upcoming negotiations about a new fishing treaty. Eutopian waters are rich enough in fish and can be made as accesible ot inaccesible to fishing by Morocco, Spain and France as we like. Two can play that game.

We have no proof that they are terrorists.
I for one do NOT trust the maroccan sequrity police wich is known for using by international law illegal ways of interogation.

We need to let them come here so that we can examine all accusations against these people.
If they are terrorists then we will have them on trial here or depending on the situation extradite them.
But we must not turn a blind eye to the persceussion the West Saharians feel either and must work to find a sollution to that problem since it effects our trade and security.

As peo said, there is no proof that the individuals in question engage in or encourage terrorist activities. There is no proof that they don't, either, so the best we can do is to operate under the assumption that they are innocent, grant them temporary asylum and investigate their backstories ourselves (as others suggested earlier).
We should support Morroco! Western Sahara belongs to the Kingdom of Morroco, as it was given to them by Spain and Mauretania!
Western Sahara belongs where its people decide it belongs.

Again, no proof.

A previous speaker mentioned that the Western Saharans should be elected to parliment and then vote for independence. I think he has a somewhat naive view of how governments work. To use an example from American history, the U.S. declared war on the Confederates despite the fact they had withdrawn from the union by legitimate means. A more modern example would be the repressed Nambian secession movement.

These people have not been connected to terrorist movements except in the minds of frightened and misled individuals. They may be innocent civilians, they may be rebels. In either case, they deserve sanctuary on our fair isle.

I have decided to give them temporary asylum. They will be taken to a safe and secret place where their background will be examined. This should for once and for all make clear wether or not theyr are terrorists.
