Any good suggestions for French breakthrough?

By the time Poland is good and subdued, the bastards have 100+ infantry divisions in northern border. And they're ready and waiting for you in Lille. If I spend a year building up, I can achieve a brute-force breakthru in -41, but isn't there a better way to do it?

1. blitz through Luxemburg and Metz

2. blitz through Eindhoven, Antwerp

The key is to see where the enemy has left a province badly or completly undefended and then just rush.

BTW : I have seen the sprites for the Landforts and they rock. When can we get them N!ghtY ?

That's just it.. Assuming you're not trying to take on the maginot line (bad) .. And you're not trying to wage war in the mountains (bad--) .. You're pretty much reduced to going thru Belgium and you got 3 provinces you can try to storm. two of them are forest, which is also bad. So we're left with Lille..

Only you usually have 20 divisions sitting in each of those 3 provinces .. France alone fields 100+ infantry divisions, remember..

I usually get Italy to join Axis a couple of weeks before I launch my invasion. Sometimes I coup the Swiss and get them into the Club, too.

By opening new lines on the front, the AI responds by red-deploying forces, which of course is a necessary thing to do. This is not a "gaming" move, it is a legitimate strategy to draw your opponent away from areas you wish to attack and to force him to spread his forces more thinly.

For what it's worth, the only time out of some half dozen attempts that I managed to eliminate the French w/o losing all of my manpower was because of Italian intervention bleeding off a significant number of the French army to the South.
I never did manage to locate a weak spot on the French-Belgian border. Maybe I need a new pair of glasses!

About the Italy option.. Reds couped Republican Spain who promptly joined Comitern who DOWed Nationalist Spain. Luckily for them it was all over for republicans already.. Italy responded by DOWing comitern. So, there's a slight difficulty in opening the southern front..

Now something the fine gentlemen pointed out gave me an idea. If I concentrated my armies next to eastern France, I should be able to sucker them into moving a sizeable portions of their military force there. And since my army rolls on treads, theirs marches on boots, I should have plenty of time for "relocating" to seaside while frenchies are still unpacking their cheese wagons.

Does anyone have an idea whether the "surprise/army detect/op detect" stuff actually does something?

Right --
You have to do as the American civil war general Stonewall Jackson did -- march 'em around for a couple of days with almost no food, and then send them into battle. It seems to put them on edge.

When starting your attack on the Western front try a simeltaneous attack on Arlon & Brussels. Remember that your infantry is going to be slaughtered if it has to attack across a river (into Brussels) and that it will also suffer big losses against land forts.

The province you really want first (in my opinion) is Arlon, because if you let a big stack form in there you will have problems shifting it - that will happen if you force a belgian retreat from Brussels without taking arlon first.

So hit Arlon in good warm weather with 24+ mech and armoured units and throw what armour you have left at Brussels with some cannon fodder infantry support. You can always retreat from Brussels once the battle in Arlon is going your way - the objective of the Brussels attack is just to stop the Belgians sending troops into Arlon during your battle there. Once Arlon is yours you can launch a 2-pronged attack on Brussels at your leisure.

Then roll onto Sedan and try and encircle the Lille stack. That should give you a foothold and it's up to you how to progress from there :D

No one is useless! Begin to save before you attack. If it fails just reload and try something else. This way you can try different things for the same battle and see if it changes the outcome. During war make sure you adjust the time to a slow rate which will give you more time to react to a situation.

btw its not a matter of developping youreself in a brilliant tactician. Having fun is the most important

New tactic :

Hit Yguslavia before hitting France, have a transport fleet & escorts set up.

Use Split as the deploy base.

Load up in Genoa.

Then, with the help of the Italian Navy, hit the soft underbelly of France.

Completly throws the AI.

France

Frankly, I find I have to tackle Netherlands first to launch attachs from Einhoven. Hit Brussels and Antwerp, fast on to Sedan, then let the Panzers speed to Paris.

One lesson I had to learn again and again is never stop. Once you have a hole, push in. At a pause, France has the forces to build a wall infront of you.

Playing Germany in A Stony Road to war. I had France in in about 6 weeks. I took Luxembourgh went through Belgium (A total pain in the ass) and encircle the rest of Belgium along with a good 80 French Division plus 20 Belgian Divisions and all of Northern France including everything on the Maginot Line. Then I just let them drop to 0 organization and I took them all while I plowed through the rest of France.

Now I am preparing to attack the Soviet Union.

Is there anyway to attack England with the Soviet Union declaring war on me?
