Oh wow, this is large

In retrospect I probably should have included this in today's DD since yeah, it's a fairly major balance change.

Isn't this quite ahistorical? Especially for the Ottomans, sultans were murdered for trying to modernize the state and the army. The Ottomans being able to simply conquer their way to Westernization seems a bit... cheap?

Wiz I am really biased but any chance of making Hungary and Poland western tech? Seems ridiculous to me that they were considered technically less advanced compared to some nations that are in the western tech group like Ireland or Finland...

But Imagine.... Western Ottomans  :eek::eek::eek: And also in history they never took Wien, and under this circumstances you should do everything to keep them away from Wien. It's a really nice gameplay tweak. Nevertheless you are right to say, that it's a ~little bit~ ahistorical.
But westernizing is a very abstract mechanic in EU IV, it doesn't affect religion or culture ingame, it only reduces tech penalties, so I guess it's okay this way.

Yeah, but if you simply wanted them to go west, give them missions towards Austria after conquering Hungary. Same with Russia, give them missions towards the Baltic/Lithuania/Poland. Don't give them huge bonuses simply because they want them to go west.

Holy moly, this is a MAJOR change for everyone playing in Easter Europe! This changes literally everything in old strategies.

Maybe thats for multiplayer. Because right now Otto players wouldnt generally push towards Europa but Asia which is not historical.

Free westernization is a huge initative and a good mid game goal for human Otto players.

What are those cities? Besides Wien.
Prague? Venice? Sevilla (for Granada and Maghreb nations)? Stockhom (for Russia)?
I also wonder if Danzig was included to make Poland westernize for free if he crushed Teutonic Order..

Changes to Sevilla node and this change to westernization...it seems like there's a lot more historical drive added. What reason did Spain have to go to Italy? None. What reason did the Ottomans have to strike at the heart of Austria? None. It was so much easier to stomp on lower tech groups eastwards.

This could really make the world a lot more interesting.

That would be too easy. Though truth to be told, Poland having Eastern tech while Ireland and Finland have Western is weird on its own.

That's a very diplomatic way to put it. In game there is this magical property "Western" that makes you tech faster. It is unrelated to your culture, form of government, policies or anything else.

Wrong. The Ottomans tried very, very hard to take Vienna. They even had a name for it: The Golden Apple. So, trying to keep the Ottomans away from Vienna is something that makes complete sense.
