Are there any alternatives to circumvent this restriction? I suppose either changing the main title or becoming sub-roman?

Edit: Well I've manually removed the cb restrictions. Don't know if it might end up being overpowered however.

Incidentally with Jade Dragon we now have a framework to have Byzantium as an off map power. How we accrue grace without being a tributary is beyond me but I can totally see gaining favor with true Rome and be bestowed with exotic goods (rare artefacts) and superficial titles (prestige gain).

By sending the Emperor eunuchs maybe? I mean the Byzantines always had plenty of eunuchs lying around. Cash gifts are acceptable too.

Why do I keep losing the title of "Bertwalda" and hence lose the "England" formation? After I form England, and even win a few battles, I then get a message saying I am not fit (within a year or so), and "England" collapses back to what it used to be. It is very frustrating.

Probably because you have a trait that renders you unfit, get rid of that trait first and then create "England".

How can I permanently hold onto the title of "England"?

Here's the list of things that can trigger the event to lose it:

is_adult = no
NOT = { prestige = 400 }
NOT = { prestige = 200 }
NOT = { martial = 12 }
NOT = { diplomacy = 10 }
NOT = { stewardship = 6 }
trait = imbecile
trait = idiot
trait = slow
trait = dwarf
trait = eunuch
trait = weak
is_female = yes
is_ingvaeonic_culture_trigger = no

So having any traits on that list, being female, having your base statistics drop under the baseline will trigger the event. Basically keep from dropping it and you'll keep the title permanently. (It's very likely your heir won't meet those qualifications, so it's difficult to keep it for multiple generations)

In addition, it currently also dissolves on succession no matter what.

So what is the point of creating England then, if you can never hold it? Wouldn't it be better to allow the player to keep it permanently once they've fully centralized and become "Feudal"? Or perhaps past a certain date.

It's really supposed to represent hegemonic 7th and 8th century petty kings who managed to gain dominance over most or all of the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms rather than be any sort of "true" title like what the House of Wessex managed at the end of the 10th century. We definitely want ways to be able to centralize Aengland and make it into a proper kingdom, but we would rather make it into a much more interesting and involved process, which will take so time to get around to.

So I've been trying to form Niwestraland, I land in Gaul, take some land and add it to the kingdom. But then sometimes they randomly switch to being de jure part of Neustria. It's happened for me in two games now, I'm not sure what's triggering it or when it happens (I don't check the de jure map mode very often), and neither time has there been any change in the borders between me and the Franks. Is there some event causing this that I just don't know about? Is it caused by sharing a border?

I only have screenshots from my current game, and not from before the flip, but this is what it looks like now

Niwestraland duchies should only flip to the the Frankish de jure kingdoms if their holder's top liege is not an Ingvaeonic culture (Angle, Saxon, Jute, Frisian, etc.), and will flip back to Niwestraland if they're held by a ruler whose top liege is an Ingvaeonic culture. There should be a major event to notify you when it flips though.

Notes:
  • IMPORTANT: Be sure to completely delete all previous versions of BTWK before installing version 1.7.1. Not doing so will result in a corrupted installation that will almost certainly be unplayable.
  • This version should be fully be compatible with any savegames started in 1.7.0. Obviously it will not retroactively fix any bugs, but any bugs listed as fixed here should be fixed going forwards.
  • As before, DO NOT enable the The Winter King - Portraits submod unless you have all of the required portrait packs (Celtic, Norse, Mongol, and Early Western Portraits), as otherwise you will face graphical issues.
  • The Music module was separated out from the main mod due to issues with uploading the full original mod on Steam Workshop (we suspect that there may still be a soft cap for uploads) - nothing about the music itself has changed.
  • As usual, if you see any bugs, balance issues, or just weird behavior please feel free to report them so we can investigate and fix them.

Playing as Lindseage I am not able to form the Kingdom of Northumbria, because I cannot conquer the Briton "Kingdom"/Chieftan (one province) of Eboracum. I'm pretty sure this is a bug. All I can do is make him into a tributary vassal, but no conquest.

Can the storyline events make Arthur High King? I tried it twice and nothing of that sort seemed to happen. Great mod BTW.

There aren't any dedicated events to make it happen, no. Arthur of course is still in a prime position to claim the High Kingship if he becomes King of Dumnonia though.

There's a block against Anglia/Lindsey conquering Eburacum too soon to give Deira a chance to form. You should be able to conquer Eburacum if the year is after 560 or if you hold Petuaria/Humberford personally.

There aren't any dedicated events to make it happen, no. Arthur of course is still in a prime position to claim the High Kingship if he becomes King of Dumnonia though.

However since Arthur getting Dumnonia is reliant on him taking it from whoever inherits it after Morgan dies, since Arthur is a bastard he doesn't get it and ends up just holding a tiny holding which means his chances are low of staging a take over. There should be an event where if Morgan where to die without an heir (especially if Arthur is still regent), Arthur is given a chance to take the crown for himself (maybe it even turns him into a legitimate bastard?), that would at least give Arthur a fair chance of rising in most games without just dying in obscurity like he normally does.
