Anyone else notice this in their games? I am playing 5 campaigns right now 867 start and switching between them. I have noticed that West Francia/Aquitania like to go for these Duchies.

It mostly happens when Louis is both King of West Francia and Aquitaine.
Louis does control Mallorca in the 867 start, so he's easily close enough for the Holy War CB from there.

The Lombards in the CM start are the same, I believe its because consul members who are religious aligned want holy wars and the ruler is appeasing them.

Thankfully Tunis no longer appears to unlock jihads for Sunnis.

They hold Mallorca so they're within range and there's no other nearby Ibadis to bring in aid. Not sure what exactly had changed since the most recent patch though, because I didn't see it before.

It's almost as bad as Egypt conquering all of Nuba within a 100 years. Or the Samanids/Karens eating up worthless turkestani lands. Or Bulgaria owning half of the steppes. The AI behaviour is quite weird when it comes to expansion.

This issue is still going on and wants me to go OCD. On day 1 Aquitaine goes for Kabylia. I console gave Mallorca to the Ummayads to see what would happen and even without Mallorca Aquitaine still goes for Kabylia. And on the other side of the map weak Kingdoms like Bulgaria and Georgia or expanding into the steppes.

1066 France likes to go for the Taifas in Spain first. I ended up starting off my most recent game with a war for Toulouse just to stop that. Fast forward a century, and what do I see? Freaking Salerno had conquered enough to form Africa.

Muslims are an exception to the usual rules on holy wars. Germanic coastal conquest aside, most faiths can't declare holy wars more than one sea zone away until the year 1100, but Muslims can both declare them and have them declared at any time. Couple that with what @SovereignGrave mentioned about Sunnis and Shiites not coming to the aid of the Ibadis and you can definitely get an AI Christian foothold in Africa.

On the flipside, you can have what happened in my 769 game, which was the Umayyads holy-warring across the Atlantic for a chunk of Brittany. It took me, Mercia, East Anglia, and the Byzantines to get them out of there.
