The royal court is bustling with activity. The king’s son and heir will be married soon and preparations are in full swing. The cities’ streets are filled with actors and magicians hoping to perform at the wedding and make a fortune in the process, while bakers, butchers and tailors are having problems fitting all the goods in the storehouse. Guests are slowly starting to arrive, keeping the king more than busy while giving the lord steward a headache because he’s responsible for allocating rooms to hundreds of people.

But strange things are happening in the castle. Four screams were heard a couple nights ago, but everyone denies having been the screamer. Glitterhoof, the royal chancellor, has mysteriously disappeared leaving the king heartbroken. Now footsteps can be heard at night and white hairs are lying around all over the castle halls. The master of the hunt claims these hairs come from bears, but that is obviously ridiculous. Since there can be only one reasonable explanation for these events the king has ordered a witch hunt in the countryside, but he may be wrong about the origins of these hairs...

THE RULES:

Adapted(read: almost entirely copy-pasted) from @Yvanoff 's last lite

Possible roles:

Courtier (Villagers) - x12

You are a member of the royal household, and fiercely loyal to your liege. You will do anything to ensure that the wedding goes as planned and nothing happens to the king or his family. Recently, the king has tasked you with investigating these strange events in the castle.

Secret Bear (Werewolves) - x4

You are a bear intent on taking power in the kingdom. To do this you have broken into the castle, brutally murdered one of his courtiers and took on his clothes. While you are now closer to the king, you cannot yet get past the royal guards and replace king himself in a similar fashion. You had a plan to deal with these guards, which was almost perfect. Almost. You forgot that a bear can sometimes drop some hair and now there are courtiers looking into the traces you left behind. If your plot to replace the king is to succeed, these unwelcome busybodies must be stopped first.

Each night may designate another courtier as a target. The target will die a brutal death at the paws of a bear.

Glitterhoof (Seer) - x1

It takes an animal to know an animal. While the king is thinking of witches, you know better, the master of the hunt was right: There are bears in the castle. You do not know what they are doing here but it can’t be good. That is why you have left your post as chancellor and went undercover as a courtier to investigate these bears properly. The king may be heartbroken now, but he will understand once you’ve found the bears.

Victory:

The Courtiers and Glitterhoof win once every Secret bear is found and slain, thwarting their plot and ensuring the marriage can continue as planned.

The secret bears win once they are as numerous as Courtiers and Glitterhoof, at which point they can silently overpower the remaining courtiers and continue their plot to replace the king.

Note that dead players will lose regardless of which side wins the game: You need to be alive at the end of the game to have a chance of winning.

Detailed rules:

Spoilered for convenience, but every player is encouraged to read them (especially newer players)

Section 1: Signing up and Subbing
1 - Players will sign up by posting "In" in this thread while sign ups are open. The "In" must be clearly visible, which is to say there shall be no other text on the same line and it will preferably be bolded and in size 4+. Any other type of signing up runs the risk of being ignored by the GM.

2 - Players who do not wish to play the game from the start may still sign up as a sub. For that, a player will follow the same guidelines as above, except posting "Sub" instead of "In". The players who made themselves eligible for subbing in this manner will be listed by the GM. Any player signing up for subbing implicitly accepts that he is ready to sub any player at any point in the game should it be required. Confirmation will still be asked by the GM before the sub. If you are not confident in your ability to subbing in the game, then don't make yourself available for subbing.

3 - Should a player who signed up or made himself available for subbing no longer want to play, he may contact the GM (either via PM or in the thread) to notify him of the situation. If the game has not started yet or the sub not been used yet, he will be taken out of the list of players/subs. If the game has started or the sub became a player, he will be subbed out immediately or autolynched at deadline should there be no subs available, with a minimum of 24 hours between the player being taken out and the autolynch to allow the GM to search for a sub.

4 - Players may sign ups as subs even once the game has started. There are two cases then, one for newer players and one for former players who were killed during the game and wish to come back in the game:

a. Newer players may make themselves for subbing by posting "Sub" in the thread, following the guidelines detailed in 1 and 2.

b. Former players may become subs if they died during Night 2 or before. Players dying after Night 2 will never be eligible for subbing. Additionally, any player who has insight information a new player can not have (such as being a former Werewolf or a Seer having scanned players) will not be eligible for subbing. To register for subbing, a former player meeting the conditions for subbing will have to contact the GM via PM and tell him he wishes to be a sub by using the term "Sub".

5 - People who made themselves available for subbing before the game starts will be listed. Said list will be refreshed by the GM and will be available at any point in the game. However, any player signing up as a sub once the game has started will not be listed publicly. The GM however will keep track of available subs privately.

Section 2: The game

1 - Once the game has started, only living players may post using the default post colors (white). Any other person wishing to reply to the thread, be it the GM, a dead player, a sub or a simple spectator, will have to post in another color.

2 - Roles will be handed out by PM by the GM to the players. If you have a question about your role, ask the GM by PM, not in the thread. Additionally, while discussing roles in the thread is not forbidden, you are not allowed to post concrete proofs of your role (such as a screenshot of the role PM you received) in the thread or to other players via PM. Anyone who does so will be immediately autolynched. You are also not allowed to directly quote the GM's PM role, nor any other PM from the GM containing in game information (such as a scan result), be it in either the thread or via PMs to other players.

3 - There will be 24 hours for voting. Voting is done by posting "VOTE" + [Name of the player who is being voted]. It is required that the vote be the only text present on a line. Should the vote be inside a line of text, it will not be counted. On top of that, it is recommended to bold your vote and post them in size 4+. Votes must target a living player. Any other type of vote will be discounted and the player will be considered as not being voting.

4 - Should a player wish to cancel his vote, he will post "UNVOTE" + [Name of the player he was formerly voting for]. The same guidelines as for voting (see above) apply. The player will then be voting nobody, and so will be able to vote someone else.

5 - Any vote made while the voting player is already voting someone else will be discounted unless the previous vote was first cancelled by an unvote, possibly done during the same post. The incident will be reported in future votecounts for the day.

6 - Should a player not be voting at deadline (either by not voting at all during the day or by unvoting then not voting), he will be eligible for subbing. If there are no subs available, the missed vote will be remembered by the GM. Should the player in question miss a second vote, and no sub be available at the time of the second missed vote, the player will be immediately autolynched.

7 - Night orders will be given to the GM using PMs. Any order given after the deadline will be discounted. The last given order is the one which will be used. Should the order not be applicable, it will not be executed at all. It is however possible to preemptively define back up orders to avoid not doing anything in case the primary order is not applicable.

8 - Votecounts will be provided by the GM throughout the day. Other players may post votecounts, but only the GM's votecounts are considered officials.

9 - At the end of the day and shortly after deadline, an official votecount for the day will be posted. Players will then have 15 minutes to voice any complaints they might have with the votecount (such as votes missed by the GM or irregularities skipped by the GM). The votecount will become official 15 minutes after being posted and will no longer be subject to change, even if the votecount may be wrong in regards to the rules described here.

10 - Non living players (ghosts, spectators, subs having not subbed in yet, etc...) may post in the thread (see the restriction on color in Section 2 ยง1). They may not, however, reveal any inside information to players or advise them in any way.

Section 3: Death

1 - The player with the most votes at deadline is lynched. Should several players be tied with the most votes, all are lynched. The lynch takes place immediately: the lynched player(s) is (are) considered dead at deadline. That means a lynched player must abide by ghost rules(see rule 2.10) from the moment deadline has passed, even before the update.

2 - The player hunted by the wolves during the night is considered dead once the night update is online. Therefore, any player hunted during the night is still considered alive for gameplay purposes between the deadline for the day and the nightly update.

3 - During the night, the wolves hunt last, and the Seer scans first. Should the Seer scan the player hunted by the Wolves, he will not gain any scan result. No back up order may prevent the scan from being lost in this case.

Section 4: Endgame

1 - The game ends once all of the Werewolves are dead - resulting in a Village victory - or once the Werewolves and allies are as numerous as the Village and allies - resulting in a Werewolf victory.

2 - The game will end after the final update, after which any restriction about posting is lifted (forum rules are not, however).

Special note:

The color used in this post is the GM's color. Nobody else in this thread may use it, whatever the reason might be.

DEADLINE IS 19:30 GMT

Convert to your own timezone !

Votes with a timestamp of 19:29 GMT are VALID

Votes with a timestamp of 19:30 GMT are NOT

I am however open to changing the deadline a bit should players require it, but signal it before the start of the game.

Deadline will not be subject to changes once the game has started

Does anyone understand what's going on with the spoiler tags for the rules? The forum just added a whole bunch of open/close spoiler tags there seemingly for no reason at all, and even if I delete them it just adds them straight back again. Not very important but it's kinda driving me mad :mad:

I was dragged into here by a friend, so I'll be IN
Welcome! It's always good to see new people around here :)
