If I have my history right it took the germans 5 days to conquer the netherlands. Which they found really frustrating, because their plan called for a quick roll over in about a day or so. ;-)
The dutch did surrender in the end, but not before the queen with part of the government and a few tons of gold had fled to the UK to continue the fight from there.

Personally though, all of that was before my time. I wasn't there to pick a side. Yeah, my grandfather was there and he *was* part of the resistance; My father still has the german binoculars he stole from a german officer at some point somewhere, I believe. But that was him - not *me*. All this talk about 'the danish' being collaborators and 'the english' fighting till the bitter end - it's silly, that was then, this is now, and unless you were actually there to fight you can't say you would have resisted. Or not.

Anyways, why are you talking in public about your Danish packs, English packs and so on? Shouldn't the pack communications be via PMs? Quite silly to out yourselves in this thread.
Well it is quite alot easier to withstand invasion attempts if you are on an island.

Have I mentioned that the Russians were any better than the Germans? No, not really. But give them credit for helping to stop the Germans, they deserve more of it than any other nation I can think of.
If two wolves fought over a sheep and thus the sheep managed to escape, do you expect that sheep would then say "God bless that other wolf, if not for him I'd be dead!"
Plus, the USSR did not even enter of its own will. Like the US, it only got involved when forced to(though at least the US was sending aid before then). Britain is the only country which tried to stop totalitarianism and actually stuck with that till the end, that's what matters.
I would say that depends on which country we are looking at. For a country like Poland Soviet occupation most certainly was better, since had Poland remained under German control all Poles most likely would have been killed off or worked to death.
For Scandinavia German control after the war would have meant aggressive assimilation efforts, but not much else; and as has been seen again and again such aggressive assimilation efforts have a tendency to backfire. Alot of written down Scandinavian culture might have been lost though; or perhaps not. The nazis did believe that the Scandinavians were more 'ideal people' than them after all, so the cultural treasures of Scandinavia might not have been destroyed after all. An archeologist did manage to stop the conversion of Dannevirke (Denmark's historical southern defences) into an anti tank denfence after all; what he did was calling Himmler and convincing him that Dannevirke was an ancient Aryan defence. Conversion work plans were stopped immediately.
Soviet occupation most likely wouldn't have meant assimilation attempts, but we would be very underdeveloped. So I think in the case of countries like the Scandinavian ones German and Soviet occupation was equally bad.
That is applicable to many countries though; I guess what you meant is that Britain is the only country who tried to stop Germany and wasn't occupied at some time. E.g. France most certainly tried to stop Germany, but they were too weak.
TBH, maybe we should have gone ahead with Operation Unthinkable; the reason that people overlook the atrocities of the Soviets is because they won. There was a reason that German soldiers and officers tried to surrender to the Western allies at the end of the war. However, Montgomery (who lacked any sympathy for the Germans, be they soldiers or civilians) sent them away because "the Russians were our allies" or something stupid like that. I wonder how many men died because of his arrogance...
