So.. Who wants to take the lead on this establishing a big game on the ot thread to advertise werewolf more. Im sure it will need much negotiating with blade and it should be a vet with a good rep who asks about it. I think it would be a good idea, if it is to be allowed. Actually have people in this thread even agreed it would be a good idea (he says whilst jumping the gun)?

If we do it, it should be when we have a well prepared game coming up so we are fairly confident it won't end with us screaming and jelling at eachother or a game that we discover is broken half way into it. We can make those games later but first we need to make a good impression on the OT to attract new players and to not attract the mods' wrath.

And with well prepared I mean a game with a RP friendly theme, a proven setup and a GM that has at least one successful game under his belt and the free time to run it.

What we could ask for is to be allowed to run just one single game in the OT as a sort of advertisment for what we do here rather than ask for having a Big game going there all the time.

As Lemeard's idol once said "No. No. No. No."
The mods have granted us this forum, and they have expressly forbidden us to have a game in the OT section. Doing so would be incredibly reckless. The forum is clearly rather shakey, and if we do something that is likely to draw attention to ourselves, then the mods might decide that saving some bandwidth is in order.

Hosting a game in the OT has been discussed before, and IIRC, Blade! said it was not on, therefore as far as i can see, it is a non starter. Have a discussion and advertising thread in there by all means, but don't start a game in there. There's enough sad people who love to piss and moan about WW, don't give them ammo.

This.

I don't even know why we're discussing this.

I'll just drop in to say:

"We require additional Vespene Gas"

Oops, I wanted to say that advertising WW in one's sig prominently can be a means of advertising this forum without scaring people; and that they should play Lite first (thus the need to have Lite constantly running). Lite allows people to feel out how the game and players interact with each other, and gives the vets enough leeway to judge the player/s according to their merits. Jumping into the deep end that is Big right now just isn't conducive to retaining players given its sheer length for a first-time commitment and the confusion that a "whacked" Big can give.

So.. Who wants to take the lead on this establishing a big game?
When it is my turn to GM, I intend to send invites out to all former players who are still active on this forum; and try to convince them to play in an old-school game, like we used to play. As johho said -- it has to be good theme, well-balanced, with plenty of opportunity for everyone to be involved. And -- this is key, I think -- we want new players or those returning after a long absence to live as long as possible. When in doubt, lynch one of us degenerate die-hards; target us for early wolf hunts. I think it would be worth the price of having johho, jonti, EURO, OY, etc, all make early exits, if the final few days are all Osteles, Garuda, Green Man, Polar Mongoose, Ahura Mazda, Sekenr, etc. Show them again how fun it is.

I can make it even easier for you, by not signing up. If I'm to die early *again* but by design, I really can't be ar*ed to waste time on it especially when 4 out of those 6 players were one post guys IIRC. OY usually dies early too.

I didn't say kill you early by design; I said to give the newcomers/prodigal sons a chance by targeting those who we know won't be quitting the community again just because they died early.

Inactives are not a recent phenomenon. They have been around before, and like jonti says, some of the guys you listed never made more than one post a day. Also, Oy always dies early.

If you're talking about Llywelyns, Thistletooths, Avernites and von Loch Nesses then sure, I'll gladly step aside, like jonti. But I think an endgame with these I just mentioned plus AOK, jonti, Euro, johho, Randy, trespoe, marty et al would be even better.

Agreed. For example, I know Polar from elsewhere and while I like him, he's not a WW player. Having an endgame full of barely active players while all the active players have been lynched is not on.

You call that an endgame? You can squeeze only so many clowns into that VW Beetle.

But; let's not fall into the trap of judging someone by the number of posts they put up each day. One post can include plenty of analysis and reasoning, as well as some RP and a vote; whereas the sort of player who posts ten times a day, but only includes one RP post, nine vote switches, and nothing substantial to add to the game is as inactive as someone who only posts once a day to say "Vote xxxx."

What about a player who posts 20 times a day, with no RP posts, 16 votes switches, and 4 posts demanding everyone do what he says otherwise he will kill their entire family?

Is he inactive too?

Maybe we should count the number of PMs made and received...

Not necessarily. There have been lots of new players that started with tons of activity. reis91 and Mats_SX for instance had very active playing styles in their very first games. I remember being in the JL trying to constrain the newly prometed seer's apprentice Mats_SX from personally PMing almost every single player alive. I failed badly at that. But he had fun. :) I had fun albeit with a sense of looming disaster. And I'm sure the wolves had a field day being contacted by the seer out of the blue. :D

Anyway I think EURO talked more about what a fun-to-watch endgame might consist of for type of players rather than saying he wanted those same player in every endgame.
