How many times do you think I've tried to do that by lynching people, and about how many times has that worked?A lesson to those in future games that this behavior is not okay.
People don't change their ways because they've been lynched or criticized or banned. Change comes from within, and I doubt that Comm Cody thinks *he* was the one at fault here. More likely he blames others for lynching him, and will cite this as a reason why he shouldn't be lynched next time.
Morever, it has now become a contest of wills and a test of pride. From the hypothetical perspective of Comm Cody, if he holds out doing this for long enough, you will eventually realize that he's not going to give in and do what you want. From your perspective, if you hold out doing this for long enough he will eventually change his ways.
It's like a Cold War, but everyone only becomes more adamant as time goes on, and each time the village is deprived of a villager.
So, if you want people to change, don't try to do it by force. In fact, don't try at all. It will come, ultimately, from within, or it will come not at all.
