Keep in mind Sanders wasn't technically a Democrat until he ran for President. One of the die hard Sanders supports I know who is likely to vote the Greens in the fall has maintained that she would never vote for HRC because she is as bad as any Republican. She also recently said she wouldn't be surprise if HRC selected Trump as her VP.

Ah in that way; I misread it then. I read it as Jackson being that green politician to annoy Bernie supporters which didn't make sense to me. Seems he was catering to them instead.

Oh sure, as long as the two are broadly supportive of each other, you could theoretically have members of different parties. That just almost never happens in practice, and certainly not with the polarization of today's politics.
