I will give you this Odin - you have been consistent in your pre-release enthusiasm for the game and in your post release disappointment.

To tell you the truth I have not played CK for quite a while myself nor have I visited the forum. I just ducked in to see if a new patch was out and saw that you had posted. Hope all is well with you.

Odin, a small comment...just going on publicly available information, it can very well be argued that HoI 2's development process is, at the very least, looking to be quite a bit different from CK's, even if, say, it doesn't represent a major change in Paradox policy patching-wise (as seen towards the other games), for example.

Hey CC been a long time...

Some would say to consistant with both, I remember the days of sergei and all of sitting around guessing what was going to come of the project, I honestly preferred it. Eitherway I never thought Paradox was a bad company, or decietful, or somehow criminal. I have always tried to temper my posts with a measure of humility and the reality that I choose to be here.

Having said that, CK killed me as a loyal and ardant customer of Paradox's. I wish them the best.

Hey Scythe, how you been? Havent traded barbs with you in a long time....

Point conceded.

Let me say that CK was unique to any other Paradox game that I have seen in the development phase anyway (the snowball situation) but the end result was the same Scythe. So yes technically your right, HOI2 development does look different then CK, but nothing I have seen suggests a different end result.

At release I will be shocked if HOI2 dosent require patches (DEM's) to balance it and work out AI flaws. IF I am wrong I will publically come back here, appologize for my critisims and state I am wrong.

The odds are in my favor that wont happen Scythe, I've got history on my side, no matter the circumstances they havent pulled it off yet.

It’s not much fun to act as a beta tester for years and years. By the time the game is ready to play there is a great risk that you have become too bored with it to want to play it again.

I spend more time on modding forums than actually playing Vicy or CK but I haven't yet finished a single CK game because of bugs. Interestingly enough, i started enjoying modding more than actually playing these games. On a second thought however, i loved playing crash-free EUII, which i spent months of sleepless nights.

If its going to be a huge beta anyway, why not let people here vote for the kind of game they would like to see before Paradox start making it?

I am already dreaming of a "Best Game Ever" ideal. Ironically enough, Paradox is the only company that can handle it. Maybe we should create a new forum about this player suggested game.

Buggy games, and careless handling of info on the games, i.e. insufficient manuals, charts and so on aren’t the only problems lately. Vic was pretty good purely technically speaking (apart from balance issue, some events (Prussia, Italy) and the world market trade). However the fundamental problem was that while most buyers probably expected a diplomatic game where you were the gray eminence you ended up with a game where you acted more like a factory manager.

I was hoping for a refined EUII around Vic timeframe, but as written earler above i always felt like a salesman.

I am not fond of the graphics at all; dull and rather primitive.

One word; "Embarassing" Both CK and Vicky have sooo disapointed me about graphics. I'm still dreaming of good old days of EUII armies changing uniforms as technology is developed.

You don’t interact much with other rulers, you just keep on breeding your heirs. At first it is fun to handle your courtiers but after a while you feel like you are running a kindergarten having to decide the future for every kid in your court. You have no ledger and you can’t adjust the message pop ups much.

The handling of historical matters is not what I would expect of a company that has released such a great game as EU 2. At this point CK is a huge disappointment to me.

I find this. The longest game I've played took up a morning when I got to 1091. But whenever I try to carry on I end up pressing my computer's power button. I just don't have the willpower to go on.

Well, having the uniforms change in EU was nice, but I wouldn't call the CK/Vicky graphics embarrassing, not by a long shot. But then again, graphics are way down on my list of priorities when it comes to games such as these...

...heck, I still play Rebellion, BotF and EFS on occasion, so I may not be the sane enough to judge here.

I doubt I'll ever get back to CK with all the great titles being released this autumn, as such this game has been a total waste of money for me. While I can easily afford the financial loss, I don't like being taken for a fool.

Voting takes you nowhere in making new products, people would just grave for another sequel of existing titles no matter what. Things would stagnate.

Well that could easily be avoided by adding the restriction that it had to be a vote on an entirely new era or type of game.

Perhaps my idea of setting up an “Advisory Board” is a better suggestion though. You could have some old fans, fans skilled in programming, product developers, historians and get some good input before beginning to develop the games.

I am sure the failure with Vic could have been avoided and perhaps CK had been in a better shape from start

Well, I doubt that will happen...but at least you can go from CK to EU2 right now...
