Leave for a few months come back.. .nothing's changed...

Well I won't even bother installing the game on my curent rig until the savegame are smaller, and the many problems and bugs I've already mentioned get at least addresed.

Hm. Buy a paradox game, play it in a year or so.

Well, THANKS to all you who are hanging in there still playing it and reporting all the problems... if it weren't for YOU, lazy bastards like ME wouldn't get an eventually more polished game.

My god, settle down you didn't have to buy it! Paradox developed the game, put time, research, and effort into it, and you insult them.

Making patches for their games gives them little profit. They could just let you attempt to play 1.00 CK and they would still get just as much money from you. Sure, a few people wouldn't buy it because of the complaints on the forum, but they would still turn a profit. You do know that Johan still patches EU2, on his own time, even though it was released years ago, right? Paradox is possibly the best game developer in terms of support, but they don't have the manpower to beta-test everything. If they were a large company, they could, but then the game would probably never be patched and, if it was, none of the gamers' input would be included.

His post didn't seem overly insulting to me. Other than the buy a game and play it a year later comment, all he did was offer his opinions. There was no venom being spewed. He explained he wouldn't load it on his new machine until things about the current version he dislikes are addressed.

If dearmad's post is as flaming as it gets, the forum would be a very subdued place to spend time.

I don't think anyone disputes that they have put a good amount of research and effort into it. :D

Paradox's shortcoming is very rarely ever research or effort.

Sure Paradox do(did) great efforts to improve their games in patches (just 1.03b seems great) but it is not acceptable to accept as a convention that game is released before polishing process is done.

I didn't buy CK (not available in NA) but I will. Even if I disagree with the molto-patches process, it will not bother me personally when I'll buy a copy of CK.

However, this sentence is utterly BS as an answer to a unhappy customer.

No, its wasn't as bad as some of the posts I've seen but it A) wasn't constructive and B)came off as whining. I'd like to see 1.04 out pretty soon as well but, until it does, I'll just continue to play on 1.03. Its a good game so far and just needs some work until it becomes a GREAT game.

well, EU2 has been out for years and all the patches show. but a lot of the new beta patches for EU2 are to improve the converter thing. CK needs more work, and it's coming, and 1.04 will be a huge patch just like 1.03 was. but on the bright side for CK'ers, vicky has been out longer and is at 1.03b just like CK. although i do think vicky is in better shape than CK is.

Amen to that! I assessed a couple months back 1.04 would coincide with the North American release and that Paradox would try to cram as much as possible into the improvement of CK till then. As such, I don't really expect the next patch before the end of the month (probably doomed the thread there, didn't I? ;)).

Paradox has invented a new stage of developement to their games; the post-release beta. Having paying customers do virtually what could be construed as beta testing and even developement is a strategy that is bound to backfire in the long run. Don't get me wrong, I love their games, but only after months of patching.

at least paradox produces patches after they are forced to release their game early, there are many example of games that never get patched

and we're not still on patch 1.03, it's patch 1.03b!

North American release is not until September 21st so they still have time to have D.E.M 1.04 ready to send out with the CKgame.

Um actaully making patches for the games keeps their customers here. Would of of still played Paradox games if they left them at 1.02? Christ EU2 and HOI were so buggy until much later.

I love paradox games dont get me wrong, but the initial poster has a point. Paradox games aren't great until like 6months - 1yr later or at least 3 patches later. Some are even unplayable until patches get out.

I thought he said that Victoria was his best work ever? Though I guess good coding doesn't necessarily equate to a good game...

I'm pretty sure we'll have 1.04 around September, when it ships in North America.

Stardock does the same thing. They are a small company based here in Michigan, and they have it so that you can pay to download the games early on the proviso that some of the games aren't finished yet. That way, people who are impatient (like me) and like to contribute to the development of a product (like me) can buy in early, have their fun, and see the game grow. Those that don't like that can wait until the finished product is released.

I belong to the "a bird in hand is worth two in the bush" camp of Paradox fans, and would rather have a slightly buggy program NOW rather than a completely polished program LATER (especially since I know that the program will eventually reached that polished state.) However, I understand that this is not for everyone.

There is something really good in Paradox's "release-then-patch-very-many-times" policy. When you buy the game in an early version and are active in the forums, your suggestions can make it into the game too. Besides, you will have to pay the money for the game once, no matter when you pay it. Patches are free, remember?
