So i decided to have a look at how FP play. I decided to go with prosperity tree (i miss read the skill perk that gave 2 unity for hubs though it was for power plants), got private colony ships, was like nice i have 200 energy i can get an early colony ship.
Oops, now i have 12 energy with an income of 1 a month which will be -5 when the ship finishs buidling, i get up to +5.8 then colonization starts,
It take 2 years now, as well as imediatly increasing my science cost by 10 but also shooting my unity costs up by 25% which is massive like an extra year of unity collecting massive.
In short don't build private colony ships early in the game unless you have a massive energy surplus.

Unless it's changed, private colony ships are actually cheaper than regular ones. You gotta set up your economy before expanding.

Half cost - but use power not minerals IIRC.
Downside is that you don't get to pick the ethics of the transplanted population.
