The Bretons are culturally more similar to the Franks than the Britons (Welsh/Cornish) by 1066 so playing as a Welsh character would be a better choice.

I once played as Welsh king and made quite a progress in my Celtic Reconquista of Britain. I also managed to take control over Brittany and parts of Scotland.
