This is not how software development works. You can throw more people at a problem, but effectiveness of manpower is not linear and new people on the project will inevitably introduce bugs and issues that might fail the very milestone they were meant to save. You can make everyone work 12 hour days but after a couple weeks their work efficiency tanks and you end up with less done and more bugs than a normal scheudle if you let it go on past that point. You can 'meet the deadline' by lowering your ambitions and proclaiming yourself done whatever the actual standard you were originally supposed to meet. You can not magically meet both deadlines and quality standards by rolling up your shirtsleeves and saying the pledge of allegiance while a bald eagle flies overhead.
Are you trying to say that 9 women will not give birth to a child in a month??

I don't think there's something wrong with the dev process, per se, but more how the current state of the game is so far. They're not satisfied, and thus will not release until they are. This is fine, and I appreciate. It only becomes a problem when the devs can't seem to make it work, and then it never finds a perfect balance and release becomes more distant. This hasn't happened yet though, so I am not worried for now.

I think they are assessing this correctly. The standard has raised considerably with most recent successes.
Now they are feeling the pressure to deliver games that are not only polished, but fun to play at launch. Main franchises need to be so good that they are able to sell extra bits for as long as the next generation takes over. Two years at the very least.
This isn't easy, which I believe is shown in the early demise of Runemaster & co. That might have been good enough for one off sale, but likely wouldn't have carried further.

To me it seems that even PoE and C:S haven't been spectacular successes beyond their base titles (but they are exceptionally good starts for future franchises). Most of their customers have needed to be taught into the Pdx business of dlcs and what you can expect of them. I'm also guilty by not having bought extras for those like I've amassed many if not most of PDS dlcs.

My assessment is that they aren't sure that what they have now with HoI4 is something which could carry DLC sales like EU4 and CK2.

Don't give bits of information out on twitter accounts. Don't mention not approved betas in half-sentences. Nothing has changed since before christmas, then there shouldn't be any Informations around.

Some of us enjoy little snippets here and there. It adds to the suspense.

Really surprised by some of the attitudes in this thread. People making demands realise that Paradox is one of the most communicative companies out there? The amount of information you get prior to release is just insane. And yet some say that devs "don't give a shit". Really? I know devs who don't give a shit, and Paradox can't be farther from them. I think people just need to relax and realise that the game won't be coming any quicker even if devs gave us weekly updates on when they think it'll be out. It'll be done when it's done, no sooner, no later.

PoE isn't a PDS game. And thankfully doesn't use Paradox's DLC structure.

The delay has been so long that it would benefit everyone's expectations to release the game when it's ready. Paradox's openness should not be an excuse to have ago at them. We should applaud them for including us in the process, listening, responding and even modifying elements of the game because someone had a good idea. Just my penny's worth...

I'd be totally fine with the wait if one of the devs did a daily blog on nonsense they do in the office just to keep me looking at a positive and fun thread instead of nonstop let down with very little interaction. Doesn't even have to be on the forum, make it twitter, pretty simple limited characters maybe a picture. Hell I don't care if its a picture of Johan in drag or Groogy and podcat playing beer pong in office hours. Or a screenshot of the game totally photoshopped to look like a rip off of a total war game or civ. Just give us things to chew on. Remember we are as much fans as customers and while you guys are a game design company, you are one of rarest kind, your developers have an almost direct line to your customers. Hell I can't think of any other game where I actually had developers on my friendslist in skype and steam.

My main working theory on your secrecy of the delay is that you guys are trying to work out dx12 features ingame to enable awesome Async Compute support which in my humble opinion is precisely what the clausewitz engine needs. Its almost like Microsoft dx12 devs play Paradox games. Please, please, please, PLEASE communicate with us more, it doesn't need to be nuts and bolts, and it certainly doesn't need to be on topic. Make it fun and I guarentee you that you will score big with your fans/customers. You guys so need a communications director.

No excuses they did commit a couple of failures but they been known for bein amateurs for years already.. so have some ultra patience with paradox!

2017 as best anyone who say anything els is either lyin or not used to game development!

PoE isn't a PDS game. And thankfully doesn't use Paradox's DLC structure.
Yes, it's a bit different case. C:S isn't PDS game either, but it is using closer to what amounts to "Pdx DLC structure". Anyway it's evident that Pdx is gunning for more than one-off releases, building longer relationships... and PoE / C:S most definitely count towards "raising the bar" for new releases.

They could perform the best of both worlds, release a buggy early access version on steam (maybe knock 10$ off it), then perform full release after beta. That would be a good blend between old skool and new skool paradox (anyone play HoI 1 1.00 like I did). Then it wouldn't be released, they'd get additional capital and feedback and bug reports, and they could still release a finished product when they hit 1.00 status.
