I've been wondering if it's possible to play with a mono-ship fleet that would be well-rounded enough to fight most AI fleets (except maybe FE/crisis fleets).

I came up with this battleship:

Small missiles are for enemy corvettes. My assumption is that, since the corvettes will rush at the battleships stack, they will not be protected by PD right? Therefore, they will not be able to avoid the missiles.

Things I'm considering:
- Replacing one small missile with one autocannon (for little more flexibility)?
- Replacing one medium Gauss with one autocannon (for little more accuracy)?

Thoughts?

If they have fighters, those will take out the missiles. Also, any cruisers with PD might not be too far behind and will certainly be in range once the fighters have been taken care of. For me personally, I would replace the small missiles with autocannon to deal with vettes. I have no numbers or experiments to back that up, it just seems right and I like it. I'm sure most people will tell you to use your battleships to carry only big weapons though and let your screens worry about the vettes, but if you want an all BB fleet then I guess you've got to have a few small weapons.

A well rounded mono fleet that defeats pretty much anything you throw at it is a cruiser with 1 kinetic artillery and 4 plasma cannons. Autocannons deal better with corvettes than missiles as well.

Switch everything to large but have the one with the two mediums in the middle. Equip two Large plasmas, 2 flak artillery and then its your choice between Gaussguns or Kinetic artillery for the rest of the large slots. If you want to use X mounts use a Lance or Giga cannon instead of your two large plasmas. Switch your computer to sentient for BBs because damage is their most valuable asset.

Don't use small weapons, you want all of your firepower available immediately to cut as many enemies before their smaller ships can get into range.

the plasma, kinetic, flak setup is particularly effective against fallen empires.
