In my current 1.05 game, little Geldre - the one province Dutch minor - just conquered all of Castille by itself, around 1460. Yep, they took every single province on their own and annexed everything except for Leon, Castille, Estramadura, and Toledo. Castille has *no* ports and no fleet (although they're still able to send colonists to Central America - don't ask me how).

Geldre lost Grenada and Bearn (resurgent Granada and Navarre kingdoms in rebellion), but still hold all of the other stuff and seem to be going strong in 1499. They're building troops like crazy and have whupped both Portugal and Aragon in wars when those countries tried to 'liberate' the Castillan provinces.

I've never seen anything like this. I wonder if they'll be able to colonize?

Or maybe he forgot about the Canaries.

No, Gelre got the Canaries in the peace settlement. Like I said, Castille had no ports and no navies.

Alas, Gelre got some sort of event which produced rebels in just about every province they owned, so now they're down to Murcia, as well as some province in Turkey they annexed when they kicked the Aragonese around.

If they're still sending out colonists on a regular basis, then they DO have a port somewhere in the world. Otherwise, they're just getting the 3-free-colonists random event about every other year.

If not the Canaries, then probably a colony somewhere out in the Americas. Try Columbusing a look out there to find it.

I've heard about rampaging Ragusa, but Gelre is often eaten alive by Burgundy after a decade or two :D
The opposite thing happened to me in my last game. I was playing France (which might have helped ;)), and meanwhile Gelre was building up an army of around 30,000 or so. They then marched down, took Zeeland, Netherlands and Flanders from Burgundy. They might eventually become Holland at this rate. :p
