I was always kind of annoyed whenever war would break out without a Molotov-Ribbentrop pact signed, and the Soviets would sit by and do nothing while the Germans conquered and annexed Poland. As has been pointed out, as the game stands, there is no reason for Germany to offer the M-R pact. But when I tried to mod the event to show how the USSR would be really pissed off, I realized that it was more difficult than it would seem...

First of all, when the M-R event (event 2050) kicks off, I toyed with making option C, "No deals with the Bolsheviks!" trigger event 2650, "Germany invades Poland without our Blessing.", which already exists but isn't currently triggered by anything. But I realized that that didn't make any sense. First of all, the Germans haven't invaded Poland yet, and secondly, the Poles just might cave, creating an odd situation indeed.

I spent a lot of time thinking about it, and decided that if the M-R pact didn't go off (If the Germans refused to offer the pact, or if the Soviets refused), then event 2027 should sleep, and an alternate "Danzig or War" event would happen instead, one which is exactly the same, but if war happens, it triggers event 2650. I haven't fully tested the mod (it doesn't crash at least, and both "Danzig or War events don't trigger), but the hope is, at least, that there should be at least a chance that the Soviets and Germans would go to war if Poland is invaded without a M-R pact.

Questions -

Is this a good idea? Historical?

How do I make it so that the AI will tend to pick one option over the other? Does it always consider option "a" the "historical" one, and will pick that one first? If so, will simply swapping the "a" and "b" options change the AI's preference for a given event? I want to make it so that the AI Germans are a lot more likely to back down over Poland if they don't have a M-R pact.

Bump. Sorry, but I really want to know for sure -

Anyone who does event modding (or someone from Paradox), does the AI pick option "A" on an event over option "B"? If so, what is the chance that they'll pick option "B"?

No, it's 5.6% for B option in a 2-choice event, 5.3% in a 3-choice event and 5% in a 4-choice event. Same percentage applies to C and D choice if they exist.

The A choice is 94.4%, 89.4% and 85%.

as it happened, Russia declared war on Poland some 3 weeks after the germans IIRC. The point being, if Germany had declared war on Poland without Russias blessing, Hitler feared there would be hell to pay, since Russia wanted ta regain some of Polands territory. Since Poland was created again after the Great War. Before that half of it was Germany and half of it was Russia (and some of it Austria-Hungary).
