Are you playing 10v10? I find the artillery spam in 10v10s unbearable and I have not played 10v10 in a long time because of that, but I don't think it's that bad with standard settings so long as the map size is appropriate.
I'll never understand why people think artillery needs to be tone down. Stop playing so defensively
It is entirely dependent on the size of the game. No one has time for arty spam in 1v1's and 2v2's. It will lose you the game. 3v3's on smaller maps like Merderet and St. Mere-Eglise are the only times I see artillery in any meaningful amount.
You played against a 2nd Mortar Division player. They rely heavily on mortars in phase A because they have to use it in tandem to support their low amount of infantry. Artillery is fine as is right now. Of course it is deadly against immobile things like IG's and AT guns. The precision sounds like bad luck or him hitting you with 107mm.I played it a long time and now I´m playing 1v1 to 4v4. I can be wrong but it seems to me at least as worse as in 10v10. In 10v10 maybe a little bit more people were spaming air what was also kind of annoying but you had a bit fun to counter it with planes in good maneuvers and AA while arty is just clicking on a point.
The problem is the asymetric balance sometimes together with the different income imo, I have as 17. SS division not much income and A. If they wreck then my Paks, my IG´s, my MG´s and so on away with arty I will also not be able to counter it effective because I need minutes to get a decent arty-setup that is not instantly countered by the overwhelming enemy arty. Plus I have to fill the gaps in my line so I don´t get pushed by the enemy, which is much frustrating because often the units don´t gave a single shot and get wrecked away from far away without even an attempt to attack, but since I don´t know I have to hold my frontline defendable. And against some decks it´s suicide to attack in some phases, so I´m sitting at least 10 minutes around frustrated and getting mortared, asking why I play such a crap and with a very bad start in phase B. 2 mortars I brought in got instantly pinned and killed by a Xylophone at start of B.
Then I brought heavy mortars in that also got pinned because enemy had now mortars, a new xylophone, M2A1 and bombers while I had only suffered a lot without being able to do anything against it beside killing one or two mortar and the xylophone. So I decided to bring 2 Stug´s in because my new pak got also bombarded, placing them in a good position and bulding up something to push. He spotted them with an infantry unit, letting both of them retreat after a few shots and killed one of them with a single tank (he had more tanks and anti tank that didn´t got mortared away, so I wasn´t able to push with the Stug´s alone). I managed to kill the other one but wtf?
At the end I was only frustrated and asking myself why the heck something like this is possible. German tanks range got also reduced to laughable 1200 m, but I´m fine with it because of balance and the goal to have fun while playing (if not no one would play..) but this shit skill less arty spam is so dumb and unfortunately effective that I hope every game I don´t get such an enemy. First shot of mortar got 2 strenth of pak away, first shot on IG 3 strength away, with a precision that is complete bullshit in terms of realism and a gameplay that should make fun.
