We'll probably start getting ambushes and raids soon, now that our fortress population is over 40 and we've had a few Strange Moods that produced Artifacts, increasing the value of our fort.
Ohh, a succession game! would be honoured if I could be dorfified, preferably as a soldier for more fun! I might be able to serve as an overseer in the future, want to get a lil better at the game before saying anything definite

Did you want to be dwarfed right now (as a civilian, that's all we have available) or wait for the coming wave of migrants and get dwarfed as a soldier?
Uhm, good question, do any of the current dorfs seem to be able to fight in the future? Cause Captain of the Guard is a title I can see before me!
Well if we're about to start getting sieges I really won't take over. If there's one thing about DF I haven't figured out yet it's military.
I've already drafted all the available Dwarves who might be useful in the military, and they are all claimed by players. Someone suitable should arrive with the next migration wave, though.
I say keep going. I dabbled at DF recently and figured out that I'm quite terrible when it comes to military. I set up my walls too late, I break walls down at the wrong time, I get ambushed and sieged. All in all, I would be the death of this fortress hands down.
Also I ask for another suggestion. I request that when you (I since I'm siege engineer) make the ballista range, you tie up some of the peacocks, dogs, and cats to the wall and have me use them as targets. good practice and population control. Maybe we could throw in a dwarf child, those dang useless mouths.

When we first settled in this desolate arctic wasteland with no food or water and just a bunch of snakes I doubted Blue Emu's leadership, but after all these years I've come to support him as Overseer, and I'll continue to support him until he retires or someone steps forward to replace him.
I'm flattered by your faith in me... but any time Polar or anyone else wants a turn, I'll be happy to pass the game on. I'm in IT classes every day, so I really should be doing homework instead of playing DF.
A quick update on the first half of year 139:
We've had five babies in quick succession... Deadhaigh has had a second baby, and SonOfLife, Brovahkiin, Tuominen and Tamius have all given birth. All in a couple of months. The Hippies (Elves) arrived to trade, and we bought all their Booze (as always), wood and cloth. They had a Grizzly Bear, so we bought it. Then a flock of Keas started stealing stuff out of our Depot, while we were transferring it inside. They tried to escape by flying low over our trap-field... and now we have four caged Keas. I wonder how we might weaponize them...
Work progresses on roofing over our compound. I'm installing lever-controlled hatches to seal off the stairways up to the roof.
We found the blue stuff... a single spire of it in the SE corner of the map.

What are Keas, exactly?
Blue stuff? You mean Mithril?
The one time I ran a fortress game for myself I had a lot of problems getting levers to connect to the right component properly. At some point the interface becomes just hopelessly cluttered with things you could potentially hook up a lever to.
I really hope that bit is easier to do nowadays ..
(Maybe I should start a new game, but .. last time I tried I didn't even get to the first embark screen ;-) )
