when I play as small nations I tend to give my one light cruiser, one transport squadron fleets names such as 'The Greater Haitian Home Fleet', same with armies.
As Germany I like to give units which have distinguished themselves in combat (long time on the battlefield, saved from encirclement etc.) honorary titles and preferential treatment.

think it depends alot on the game. I dont think i'll ever convince my gf to play HoI3 as its a wargame. EU3 didnt take a whole lot of effort to convince her to play and guess the same will be true for Vicky2.
back to topic. My friend and i watched band of brothers while playing japan coop though i guess we have to switch to the Pacific when semper fi comes out. Also i tend to space out when playing as i begin to think about something then tab out and search on the web after said thing. After half an hour or so i might remember that i were actually playing and tab into the game again

I have to say that I am glad for these forums. I mean to know that there are so many other people out there who have this narrow interest that most other people find completely boring. One of my close friends just starts to smile when I get on a roll about something WW2 related because he knows me (definitely not because he also cares). Even so, sometimes I actually manage to elicit some kind of a positive response instead of just a .

Nah, it just goes into John Malkovich's head, you stay there a couple of minutes and then get thrown out, highly overrated if you ask me
The geekyest thing i do is probably riffing the game while i am playing it,
when i am spaced out enough i actually start to see three shadowy silhouettes sitting on the bottom right corner of the screen making really mean sacrastic remarks whenever i do something stupid (which tends to happen a lot ^^)
I give every brigade a unique historical name-- pretty geeky I admit.

I dont know if its really "geeky", but it keeps me from playing Paradox games actually,
that is whenever i play HoIx i somehow allways end up on the wikipedia or some history sites,
reading up on details like how many bolts where used to make that ship that just got sunk,
or how many panzers where used in that offensive that was just done,
or when a specific general got that rank and such stuff...
(or other stuff when playing EUx ofcourse)
I dunnow how much useless knowledge i have accumulated in this process over the jears, but it has to be alot
I also tend to make sketches of warplanes, tanks, war medals, flags,... while playing, on scraps of paper alot... not sure if thats geeky tough

I usefully take a pice of paper and write down production plans, like first build x inf brigades, x mart etc etc. A long list. Then I do a model over different standard division to easy get a grasp over the construction face later on. The thing is that it's usually like 10 pices of paper before I'm ready.
Haha, just the other day, I arrived 2h earlier than my GF, so I made up a list like that. When she arrived I was at the computer (not too unusual), but she said nothing. Later when she saw the list she came up with 100 things to do that's more important than my beautiful list. Don't think she likes my g33ky side:rofl:
