Ok guys I am in a bit of a weird diplomatic scenario. Playing as Scandinavia and I have Tver as a vassal, which is adjacent to Novgorod. When going to war with Novgorod it offers an option to turn Novgorod into a vassal, but only a vassal of Tver (which is my vassal...). 1. I didn't realize vassals can have vassals, 2. how do I make Novogord MY vassal and not Tver's?

I think that either way, as of one of the more recent patch, if you integrate a vassal with subjects of its own you inherit its vassals. Otherwise, I believe who gets to own the vassal via war is dependent on who controls the capital. Tver probably has some claim or core on Novgorod's capital and as such is able to control it via war.

Well I don't want to integrate my Russian vassals as they serve as a buffer for me against Muscovy and they have different culture/religion. Now Tver has a claim/core on the capital of Novgorod (Torzhok) but I am unable to fabricate a claim to the province. Any suggestions here people?

Why is it a problem for you? As a vassal of your vassal they will still be a buffer and they will still fight for you in your wars.

I wont get income from them as a vassal. It also seems to me be a flaw in the game mechanics or a bug rather than a purposeful design decision to have this scenario...

Vassalised Japan in my Korea game to break the Daimyo system. A few minutes later I noticed that suddenly Japan had a vassal of its own. Didn't really matter, though, since it was a OPM. Still, think of it this way. A vassal that doesn't cost a Dip Relation.

Have you sieged novgorods capital yet? I have seen this before, but i think you will get the option to vassalize novgorod for your self, if you siege thier capital.

I guess the vassal would increase Tver's income, ie yours, though not as much as a direct vassal. As for a flaw, there used to be several layers of vassals in medieval times, so I don't see why it shouldn't be possible ingame.
