weird inheritance. What's going on?

I'm Keiser of HRE. And king of Burgundy, elective monarchy. I switch to primo so my oldest son, viceroy of Italia gets Burgundy is something goes wrong in the empire.

Now that I am primo and my oldest son is supposed to get everything, the kingdom and all my demesne in it will be inherited by someone else of my dynasty. Why is that?

I know viceroyalties don't follow the usual rules (they revert to the liege upon the holder losing them), but that one isn't shown on the wiki. I do notice one thing, succession is still following the male main branch of your dynasty rather than any cadet branches: the new heir is your old heir's son. Maybe there's something weird where appointing a character to a viceroyalty causes them to be disqualified from succession to normal titles of the same rank?

If you switched to primo your eldest son (who is not the viceroy of Italy) will inherit your titles. Usually when you switch succession laws a reload will fix all the wonkiness. Your grandson was probably the heir under elective and the game just hasn't updated to reflect the new situation.

You switched to primo, so the title should go to your eldest son. The viceroy of Italy is you second son and gets the Imperial crown, which is elective. All other titles not under Burgundy follow the primary title. Since you have no holdings within Burgundy your eldest son would inherit a title without demesne, this shouldn't happen, therefore the game gives it to his eldest son, who is landed.

But it doesn't Richard de Forez isn't the second eldest son of the players children. It is skipping his eldest son and going to his eldest son's son. Who is Richard de Forez.

Richard is actually the son of my second son. It just make no sense.
I had to give the kingdom of Burgundy to my oldest to keep everything in line.
