Well, the game is full of scripting and is one of the most complete games I ever seen... Lots of scripts and features etc. etc. I'm sure if they had all the work with the other scripts, they forget a simple feature as a real calendar :D

No they expained it, they could easily put in a real calander. But this would complicate lots of things and its harder to calculate stuff, so they chose not to put it in.

I doubt very much that they "forgot"... it was a design choice... and a good one.

The events directory contains 118 event files, each with (typically) dozens of scripted events. The AI-file directory contains 529 AI-files, each, again, containing dozens of seperate AI routines and events.

Any idea how much easier it is to write that code if you standardize the game-months to 30 days each?

Would you like the job of going over all those thousands of events, to re-code them all for months of varying length?

Just because the Romans did silly things (like pulling days out of one month to add to another) doesn't mean that Paradox is required to do the same silly things...

if I have to choose between a realistic game with realistic calender and a better game performance (AI and stuff) ... I must say the calender is not first priority

Just because the Romans did silly things...

Off-Topic...

It's actually quite an interesting subject.

Back in pre-Empire Roman days, the Church was in charge of the Calandar... keeping the planting and harvest synchronized with the seasons and so on...

The problem was that the Church was also a power-block in Roman internal politics... and when they were "on the outs" with the ruling Consuls, they would clip a few days off each month, shortening the year to get rid of the buggers sooner... conversely, when they were satisfied with the Consuls, they would add a few days to each month, to prolong an administration that favored them.

Unfortunately, they were hostile to the Consuls much more often than they were friendly with them... with the result that the secular years averaged less than a seasonal year... and the Calandar gradually slipped out of synch with the actual seasons.

As you can imagine, in an agricultural society where planting and harvesting are tied to religous festivals, this is not a good thing.

Julius Ceasar put an end to that, and rationalized the Calandar... it required importing an astronomer from Egypt, and extending the current year to 445 days (!) to catch up... but after his death, later Romans started frigging around with the Calander again.

... with the result that nowadays, everyone is out-of-step except Paradox.

so all we need is a Paradoxian Calender for our reality..... :D

Didnt have the Jews a calender today with 360 Days....30 Days per month ?

And every 7 Years an extra month to catch the lost days.

Yet a small thing slipped by... He mentioned the 'Church', something which was not 'invented' some 400 years into the future. After all, Julius Caesar was murdered 44 B.C. Before Christ was born. Before that there was no 'church' or something equal to that. In fact, the roman empire still believed (or prayed to) multiple gods until some Emperor decided that Christianity shall be the new state religion. And that was much much later, some 400-500 years in the future.

So, Blue Emu is not correct as always, yet we get what he tried to say :D :D

sorry, needed to be a smartass :)

"Church" does not equal "Catholic Church"... that's religous chauvinism.

... if you prefer, though, we can use the word "Temple" or "Preisthood".

One of the meanings given by Dictionary.com:

5. Ecclesiastical power as distinguished from the secular: the separation of Church and State.

... this is the specific sense in which I meant the word.

Note also that the word comes from Greek roots... kriakon... hard to reconcile with a purely modern origin of the term...

But this is taking us ever further off-topic...

meh, guess you were right again. Yet church is something i only connect with Christian churches. If you were talking about the things you posted below, then you are right of course.

:D Didn't mean to attack you, just thought i found a weak spot of yours. back fired, as usual though.

...an interesting thing to think about: quite a few of the non-Roman pagan societies had 13 months, each with about 28 days. Uniform AND they didn't have to constantly adjust it with an extra month every 7 years, or whatever. Seem to remember that Stonehenge is built on the 13 month calendar.

Yup... although we'd have to move the Earth a bit closer to the sun, to shorten the year to 360 days.
