I'm thinking the percentage icon is some sort of indicator of how pleased your people are with you. Or, to be more precise, how UNHAPPY they are. I know it's been mentioned as being important to keep them smiling, fed and toilet-papered through the war, and that seems like a good place to put it.
Upper left corner: 200 oil, iron, something?, commodities?, and then 0 of what looks like a globe???
Upper right: 10 diplomats, 0 something?, 0% something (dissent?), 15/61 - factory icon, industrial capacity?
Green provinces on the map= British controlled areas?
Every screenshot will be dissected I think. Suggestions?

Is it just me or is this screenshot loads better than the alphas in the gamespot interview?

I think that the ship images in the convoy running section of this new pic compared to the old one is evidence of a lot of work on the graphics. It appears to me that this new one is crisper and all that but ultimately such things are a matter of perception.

Looking at the "establish new convoy" bit it seems the idea is that the convoys are for directing raw materials to factories (at least one purpose). So one picks up one or more of the four commodities in Accra and ships them to production facilities in Southampton, which then, presumably can churn out nice new ships and the like.
Second guessing myself: Green colour probably equals player controlled nation (which in this case would be UK).
Some more reflections:
Could one of the commodities be rubber? I´m an idiot - the FAQ mentions iron, oil, rubber and coal so that´s what the icons represent of course.
On the convoys:
I have trouble relating "30 transports/20 escorts" to the numbers shown on the individual convoys (they add up far beyond 30/20).

My guess would be that those are the assets you have remaining to allocate to the new convoy you are establishing.

I sure hope they put no oil in Saudi Arabia, AFAIK that oil, just as Libyas oil, is after the period.
