as for Normal speed - w/a european non colony power I can see your point, but w/Spain and all the crap it goes thru the first 50 years there is no way I can have it on normal speed all game...

just won't work - so try to contemplate the sound of one hand clapping or something to keep your mind off the temptations in the slower periods for France - or do some diplomacy talk, anything but keep that speed to below normal.

Speed

The speed really should be set to that required by the busiest person. It may be a bit slow, and get a little dull, that's what chatting is for. Remember, at some later point it may be you that needs the speed slowed down. Spain's having a hard time, and I can only begin to imagine what a nightmare it is to play. Let's keep it below normal, or slower if needed for a war.

As for diplomacy, everyone in the east is being extremely well behaved. Sweden is still Denmark's vassal, Russia has only its cores (and not even all of them yet I think), Poland hasn't taken a single province (admittedly I have been the most aggressive in the east), and Austria has been the epitome of peace and reason. Let's hope it stays quiet.

I was disappointed that Russia and Poland were unable to help Spain and England. Russia was really pushing to intervene, but Austria said no, and there's no way Polands getting into a French war without Austria. I was surprised that my offers of financial aid to England and Spain were ignored. I never even got a response. Were you guys getting my messages, or were they lost in the clutter?

Speaking of that, is there any way that we can get Sweden's (Panzeh's) in-game messaging working? Does anyone know why they can't talk to anyone but the host and England (why England?). It'd be a big help to get that fixed before next week.

Anyway, it was really a fun game in the east as reason and diplomacy prevailed. The server was rock stable, I'm impressed Eugen!

Silly Poles. It appears that Austria is the only reliable nation. England chose the unreliable route of resisting and defending Spain. I honestly wasn't expecting Spain to thrash her economy like she did in order to fight me, but that was fine with me.

I quit the war because I was bored with it, not because of Austrian pressure. Obviously, Spain was not going to give up and England was going to continue attempting invasions. This is actually rather unlike me as I am accustomed to power playing. I normally would have fed Spain to the rebels and waited for the government to collapse. There's no fun in that, though.

Speed should be set by group - with individuals needs taken into consideration. Speed should not set because a certain individual "probably will get bored."

Spain and to a lesser extent Portugal and even England have a lot of micro-management at games start.

I will post an AAR later in the AAR thread. Had great fun, enjoyed the group - some funny lads. Two items however I feel I must share, due to an individuals comments:

1) I try my best not to base my game on events (my country or others) that I know will happen. I was happy to get Ottomans because I've only played them a couple times in SP. This means I have a basic idea of their events - but know little of them and the dates occured. Makes me happy.

2) I am VERY aware of the 1510 kick-off for the Caliph event. It is my personal style that if my Ottoman Empre sits until mid-1510, then launches it's best army into Delta, immediately moves it to Cairo and gets the Mamlukes en masse - it would be a very large cheeseball (smelly at that.)

Don't care if someone else plays Ottos that way - I don't. So if I like a 15-25 year Otto/Mamluke conflict, understand my style.

3) Listen, don't mind being insulted in a role play fashion in front of God(s) and all - it's all in fun.

Don't mind being insulted in private, here is how:
a) hit tab - get chat menu
b) click on "none"
c) then click Ottomans
d) insult away

Do not insult me or others in public, bad show.

Well, look at the bright side Eugen, Poland's foreign policy is to follow Austria, so if Austria's reliable, I guess Poland is in good shape too. Mind you the comment about Austria causing France to give in is from a very biased view point. We all like to think we're important (especially if we're not, see Poland for example). I hope some others post AAR's to give a better idea of the world than the bizarre and skewed Polish view.

Quick, I have to say that was a fun session. The war caught me surprise, did not produce much damage to the economy, but it did distracted me from discovering (cabot die in a forgotten island).
Poland: I did not received any financial aid offers, dont know what is wrong. About england's intervention, what can I said, frustraiting, as I was 4 land levels behind france (think level 5 vs level 9). Did not though about using all cav armies in the beggining. Was not planning to invade France, just to distract her a little bit. I gave a try , it cost me some (norkfold), but little I could do with level 5 land and a 22 manpower .
Lesson learned I guess, not to trust france, and there is a good allied in spain . And I was dissapointed in what england precibed as Austria's support of france's aggression

Your AAR was very informative and accurate bar that one part.

Well, daedalus, if you think claiming my cores and defending Frenchmen is aggression then you have yet to have a true understanding of aggression. You will have a chance to withdraw that comment since as I said I seek a peaceful game.

Nope, all Russian core provinces for this time period are under mine control. And I am almost done with Golden Horde. Kazan is next.

Yes it was very bad when I could not do anything to help Spain. I could send some cheep army that would make some distraction.

as for a sub - please remember that all subs will be held to the same rules & spirit of the game as regular members and we reserve the right to boot anyone who the majority of players feel are not fitting into the game as we originally invisioned it.

So all sub applicants please read the rules/intent of the game before you apply - we would love to have new players/subs but we don't wish to ruin our game w/those who are only looking to conquer europe b/f 1600...
