Compromise

The King of Poland hopes that there is peaceful resolution on the issue of Morocco. The Ottoman Empire has shown no violent intentions towards Europe and been honorable in his dealings. Given the closeness of views between Spain and the Ottomans, we are confident a compromise can be settled upon between these reasonable nations.

We also take this opportunity to send our condolences to Sweden for the loss of Panzeh the Great. He was a benevolent and capable leader for Sweden, and we much hope that his successor will continue in his example.

The King of Spain has heard the words of the Sultan and his advisors have confered on the matter.

Our answer will be forthcoming shortly.

OOC - can someone tell me if Morocco & OE are in an alliance right now? my savegame is from '56 so it's out of date. i am assuming that they are not

IC - We ask the Sultan to withhold any actions on the Morocco issue (be it gaining alliance status with it, vassal status, military access with it) until our 2 nations can work this out in a civil diplomatic manner. If the Sultan pledges this we will pledge to hold Morocco's peace sacred until either we achieve a diplomatic resolution or 10 years expire (ooc - tonite's estimated time playing).

If the Great Sultan is truly a man who holds the peace of the region close to his heart he will agree to our proposal on the moratorium until our dipolmats can work this out.

We will await his response.

The Ottoman Empire does not have, nor will join an alliance with Morocco. The Ottoman Empire will not act against our own friend in a miltary action.

This is why we do not understand why our addendum to the purposed treaty is a problem.

Morocco as territory in a non-issue for the Ottoman Empire. They are fellow muslim brothers.

We hope this calms the Courts of Europe, and are baffled as to why there is even concern.

The Persian disease is another subject...

Hojo update...

My son (5 months) has come down with his 1st cold - my wife got little to no sleep last nite as did the baby, she comes home from work tired and beat down...

I have volunteered to watch the little man tonite while he takes his nap from now till hopefully 9 or 9:30 - then feeding time, which hopefully she'll take since i did the early one ...

hopefully he'll sleep thru with no problem but should he be restless obviously my attention will be diverted somewhat from the game... in this case I hope to be able to do both (entertain a sick baby and play as Spain) - so if I seem a bit distracted or seem to be ignoring anyone that is the reason.

I hope to be able to play w/o any interuptions but real life, as always, rears it's ugly head sometimes.

I'll see you guys there in 10 min or so

Square, do you have the July 23rd beta patch loaded? If so, then maybe you should try a fresh install and patch. I'm sure this can be fixed.

Guys, I think I am finally going to have to give up on our game and resign. This was a great game. I really enjoyed playing with all of you. You're a great group of guys and I thought our game was going to be very interesting. However, the connection and scheduling problems have just become too much. This is not the fault of any one person. Several of us have had connection problems along the way, and at one point or another I think we all have missed a game. But we have gotten to the point where last week we only got 7 years done and then this week we only got 7 months done. It's just not happening. And I'm sure we all have other things we could be scheduling on a Friday night rather than being utterly frustrated that we cannot get through even 10 years of our game in 2 weeks.

For those of you who decide to keep trying, good look and I hope the game is successful. Thanks for the fun, and take care.

we wish you would reconsider but I can't say that I don't understand - it can be very frustrating.

however, I will attempt to continue along and should you find yourself with a free Friday nite stop by and see what's what - after all, you know we usually end up needing at least 1 sub

I ask you to reconsider your decision. I totally agree with your assesment of the situation. The game is not going as good as expected. However, I don't think you should give up, the main reason: The group of people we have seem very commited to work to make this game work. We are all frustrated in one way or another, but the fact that week after week the guys keep showing up to play should tell you something about the quality of the people here. Let us work togheter to improve our gaming experience. There is some ideas out there that could help us to improve playability. Althought myself see the problems we have, I do look forward towards the end of the game, when I am sure all of us will be happy we did not quit. I hope you are there too.

Giving up

I'm pretty frustrated too, but I don't think stopping is the answer. We had 8 people that could play show up yesterday, that's quite good. What we really need is a long term sub. Hopefully we can work out Square One's problems, or Stonewall can join us next time or perhaps Magdat would be willing to join us again. We can put up a post, there's got to be someone out there that can drop by on Fridays. We can use Sweden as the sub country if it turns out that we're all able to play.

Another idea, and I know it was brought up before, but is there really no chance that we could meet longer/another day? Especially this week since we didn't actually get anywhere. Maybe we can set up a back-up night where if everyone doesn't make it, we just call it a night and meet the other day.

Another option is that we really do start a long term campaign running parallel to our other game that we play no matter how many people show up. We could make the game different somehow, there are always lots of suggestions.

Without Edge, we're in bad shape. We already haven't been able to find a replacement for Panzeh. Now we'd be two short and still no sub in sight. I hope you reconsider Edge, there are alternatives.

1) as for longer meetings, I can usually stay online on Friday nite for max 4 hours (which should be plenty long)... however, the east coasters & Lethke may have a problem w/that length... as for another nite... M-Th are work nites for me so I can't stay on long plus I wouldn't be able to hook up till 8 to 9 and even then I couldnt' guarantee I'd make it so those are no good... Saturday is family nite around here so that's generally not a good nite for me... Sunday day is church & football/family stuff while sunday nite is sometimes open - but again I wouldn't be able to stay late or guarantee my participation... Friday is about it for me.

2) I like this idea - we kinda did it last nite - when Austria bailed due to tech issues we started up that 1770? scenerio and just had a fun run (or at least I was enjoying it) - perhaps we could do something like that again but do as T says - keep it goin long term as well as a back up..

I would think we'll work out our problems sooner or later b/c like D & T are saying, we seem to have a dedicated core group of 8 guys or so who are always there. If you reconsider Edge, you are more than welcome back in - as someone once told me you are "very good at the diplomacy" and you're presence helps us all.

but it's your choice and we'll hold no grudges should you decide to stay out.

We should set up something longer term for the alternative days. Something different: we could play minors, and create a totally different and unreal history.

Starting in 1492. The game would move fast, and should be fairly well balanced. And it'd be down right wierd. I really think we have enough players to make a backup game work. There's no reason we can't do -something- with 6-8 players.

Well, after trying a few things last night I did a re-install of the game then 1.7. However, when trying to install the latest beta I get an error message about not finding an xls document. Any ideas?

So you reinstalled the game, 1.07, then unzipped the beta patch into the main game directory? Which .xls file is it missing? Maybe you got a bad version of the patch? I've never heard of this problem.

It looks like the original extraction went to the wrong folder...
