Congrats to you! Always nice to see a fellow history-book style writer (I have NO bias honest) but regardless, well done! Vic 2 is a game I really need to look into more. This is a tremendous honor! Thank you @coz1 !
It's good to be back! I think I've mentioned here and there that I haven't had an active AAR since 2013, so it's good to be back in the saddle again.
And that's an apt metaphor, since Shining Stars is quickly heading into the 1870s, which in US History often involves what is thought of as "The Old West".
I've always wanted to play as the USA, but never got around to it. In some respects it's kind of a monster to manage, but eventually I realized that's hardly an excuse not to try it because I've typically built other empires into "monsters" and they weren't impossible to manage. You just marshal hundreds of ironclads, rather than dozens, or whatever.
I don't think it's any kind of spoiler to mention that this AAR involves alot of conflict with Mexico. But I can also safely tease (since it comes up REALLY early) that there is significant and ongoing warfare with the UK, which pretty much tops the list of countries you DON'T want to be at war with.
I hope you'll all find it an entertaining tale. Sort of a mix between gameplay and history-book style (since I often drift from one to another). Much is offered as plain history, along with explanations of how it fits in with other goings-on, but the game is by no means buried. And, as in most of my AARs, I have copious screenshots to show the development of the wars, politics, etc. For the most part you don't even have to read the text to figure out what's going on.
Please come on by and say hello! Thank you also to those of you who have already!
